Tuesday February 17 • I went online to 123hp.com/setup to download the printer drivers to my new laptop. The download didn’t work. There was a chatbox on the HP page. I entered a note that I needed help with getting the printer to work with my new laptop. The chatbox response was that someone would call me. • Jordan from HP called me. He said the driver should have downloaded automatically and the laptop should have found my printer, so something was blocking it. • He told me to try uploading from drivers.com (or something similar). Didn’t fix the problem. Jordan said when I transferred the old files to the new computer, worms or malware were transferred and the problem was related to my email. He requested remote access to see what was going on with my computer. I authorized it. • He attempted to download the drivers, then said my computer needed to be rid of the malware/worms and that I needed a better virus protection system than McAfee which they don’t recommend because it is specific to a device and doesn’t help with issues with the network and router and email. • Jordan recommended two options: the cheap option (Norton from Best Buy) or Malwarebytes from Safesys Innovations LLC (the better option). I chose the “better” option. Jordan reviewed all the product options (number of devices to be covered and number of years). 4 years seemed the least expensive option that would cover up to 8 devices (including everything connected to Wi-Fi, including 2 laptops, iPhone, iPad, iWatch, 2 cameras. • Jordan said he needed to connect me with a third party to provide the data cleanup and installation of the new virus protection. • Jordan connected me to Michael from Safesys. I gave him access to my computer for the scan/cleanup and installation. While Jordan had indicated that this process should take about 10 minutes, it took about 2 hours. • Michael uninstalled McAfee.
