Area Code Report
Scam Calls from Area Code 855
Debt-reduction pitches dominate 855 activity to a degree that sets it apart from most toll-free prefixes. Of the 38,608 total complaints logged across 8,897 numbers, nearly 20,000 fall into the debt-reduction category alone, covering credit cards, mortgages, and student loans. That single category dwarfs impersonation complaints by more than four to one, making 855 one of the primary channels through which debt-relief solicitors, legitimate or otherwise, reach consumers at scale. The prefix ranks third out of 358 area codes by complaint volume, a standing that reflects both its widespread use and the density of abuse layered onto it.
The most complained-about individual numbers reinforce the debt-relief pattern. 855-994-2142 drew 551 complaints, 855-357-2070 drew 505, 855-909-0822 drew 472, and 855-909-0847 drew 463, all in the debt-reduction category. Two additional high-volume numbers, 855-357-2205 with 866 complaints and 855-909-0937 with 440, carry no category assignment but together account for over 1,300 consumer contacts, placing them among the most active lines on the prefix.
Impersonation runs as a secondary but meaningful thread. 855-909-0815 generated 850 complaints for calls pretending to be government entities, businesses, or family members, and 855-909-0816 added another 502 in the same category. The two numbers share a sequential prefix block with several of the debt-reduction lines, suggesting coordinated infrastructure behind at least part of the 855-909 cluster. One company, Settle It Inc., appears in the impersonation link data for the prefix, the only named entity tied directly to that complaint type here.
Delivery method skews heavily toward prerecorded calls, with 3,508 FCC records in that mode against 685 live calls and 344 text messages. Complaints trace to reported locations including Gainesville, Miami, Houston, Chicago, and Kutztown, Pennsylvania, a geographic scatter consistent with virtual or routed toll-free infrastructure rather than a single originating call center. The 563 medical and prescriptions complaints add a third vector that has not yet reached the scale of debt or impersonation contacts but is present across the active window running from February through June 2026.
The threat read here is one of layered, high-volume toll-free abuse anchored in financial distress targeting. The 855-909 number block alone spans at least six of the eight most-complained-about lines and crosses both the debt and impersonation categories, which suggests the same underlying operation may be rotating pitches depending on the target. With the prefix ranked third overall and activity marked as ongoing, the 855-909 cluster in particular warrants continued monitoring for further number rotation within that block.
