It's Time to Hold Companies and Agencies accountable for their lax security of customer/clients information I recently started a petition on Change.org calling for substantial monetary penalties to be paid directly to each victim who has had their information "affected' (aka: stolen) due to a date breach of a company or agency, regardless of whether or not they can prove they suffered damages as of the date of the notice, in addition to stiff fines paid to the Federal Trade Commission. These companies, corporations and agencies demand we provide them sensitive information that makes us vulnerable to identity theft, which is becoming more common and takes years to fix, however they fail to take the necessary steps to protect that information because doing so would be inconvenient for them, and they are not going to do what is required to protect our data until they are forced to pay out a lot of money if a breach occurs that provides access to peoples' sensitive information. If anyone is interested in reviewing the petition you can find it here: https://chng.it/LJHFPZH8gJ For those who are in support of this petition, it would be a big help if they would share the information regarding this petition on other public media platforms. The more signatures the petition receives, the better the chances of forcing these companies to change their practices to protect peoples information or be held accountable with severe punitive damages.
Data Theft is NOT the Minor Issue Corporations and Agencies Portray it To Be. Last week I received notice for the 4th time in 6 years that my "personal information was affected" (aka: your name, address, drivers license number, date of birth and social security number are now in the hands of hackers and available to the highest bidder on the black market) due to a security breach, the most recent one being at Delta Dental Insurance Agency, and they didn't even bother notifying me of the incident until 10 months after it happened! Are you kidding me? I am fed up!! I'm fed up with corporations and agencies failing to take the steps required to protect their consumers, clients and patients personal information; information which they demand, and you cannot refuse to provide, if you need medical care, insurance or even to have your paycheck deposited in an account so you can access the money you worked to earn. It's not just a single category of companies that fail to secure clients information such as credit card companies, no... it's across the board! I've received notices from doctors' offices, credit reporting agency (Experian) and insurance companies in addition to credit card agencies and banks. And the way they phrase the incident - "your information was affected"...it wasn't "affected", it was stolen because they failed to take necessary action to prevent this happening simply because those necessary actions would make their jobs less convenient... FYI: freezing your credit report access will not stop these criminals from using your identity in other ways that will end up literally taking *years* to repair and costing you thousands of dollars. If anyone is interested, I just started a petition on [Change.org](https://Change.org) calling for severe monetary penalties to be paid to each victim who has had their information "affected' due to a date breach, regardless of whether or not they can prove they suffered damages as of the date of the notice, as well
