I am filing a complaint against GovAssist.com for misleading marketing practices related to passport renewals. The website is presented in a way that makes it appear to be an official or authorized government service for renewing U.S. passports. Because of the way the site is designed and marketed, I believed I was completing a legitimate passport renewal through the proper government channel. During the process, I was prompted to provide extensive personal and identifying information typically required for passport applications. After completing the process, I discovered that GovAssist.com is only a third-party service that charges fees to prepare paperwork and is not an official passport renewal service. I feel the website intentionally creates confusion by closely resembling legitimate government services, which can mislead consumers into sharing sensitive personal information.
