Beware the pyramid scheme "Women Empowering Women" or "Women's Empowerment Circle" I was recently approached by some women to join a “secret gifting group” called "Women Empowering Women," where I would need to hand over $5, 000, be involved in weekly meetings and then recruit new people, all for a promised payout of $40, 000 once I made it to the inner circle via recruiting more members. I was told that I was "carefully selected for this opportunity, but had to keep it a secret," for no rational explanation at all. To me, this is an obvious, age-old, illegal and immoral pyramid scheme. But I was assured that it was indeed “legal” due to new gifting tax laws, most definitely “not a pyramid scheme” and merely about creating “abundance” and “empowering women.” Their explanations misrepresented the true illegal nature of these groups and felt compelled to disprove their faulty logic used to justify their actions and recruit new members under false pretenses. I am a researcher by trade and began to compile factual evidence of both State and Federal Law which name these ‘gifting programs’ to indeed be illegal by breaking the "Endless Chain Scheme Laws" as well as being Felony Fraud and tax evasion. I then created an explanatory document that I sent to everyone I knew to be in it as well as people they were targeting as recruits. In it I outlined the consequences and legal repercussions and also supplied legitimate and recent court cases involving programs like these being prosecuted under laws meant to curtail Pyramid Schemes and their participants.
