MyHeritage.com "free" 7-day trial...NOT Both sides of my family have rich and interesting histories. Somehow I am related to Betsy Ross, John Quincy Adams, and some of the original settlers of New Amsterdam. There are more interesting people and stories but that is not what’s important right now. Right now, what’s important is that no one else makes the same mistake I did. Interested to learn a bit more about my family’s past, I signed up for a seven-day free trial on MyHeritage.com. To be safe, I put a reminder on my calendar to cancel the membership on day 6 if I wasn’t blown away by the site. After looking around and not finding anything useful (I assume you need the premium membership for it to work well) I decided to cancel my membership as planned. In order to cancel, you have to submit a message to customer service. Once you get to the screen where you type this message, you are made aware that it may take 1-2 days for requests to be processed. I panicked a little as my membership only had one more free day and I did not want to be charged. I hoped that this was a mistake as I assumed the “cancel account” option would be automated, not manually processed. To test my theory I submitted the cancellation request, logged out and then tried to log back in. It let me. So I submitted a second cancellation request. This was on Monday. On Tuesday they sent me this e-mail: > Dear ******, > > We hope you enjoyed your free 7 day trial subscription for MyHeritage SuperSearch and Record Matches. As the trial period ended, we're writing to let you know that your credit card was charged US $119.40 (plus VAT if applicable) on July 8 2014, giving you a full Data subscription and access to our database of billions of historical records and all Record Matches for one year. You can review your subscription status anytime on your Account > My Purchases page. If you have any questions, please write to us atsupport@myheritage.com. > > We wish you success as you continue to
