Can scammers steal your email contact list? Bit of background: My mothers email is abc@btinternet.com (not really). Several of her email contacts got sent a phishing scam from abc@nctv.com. Talked to nctv, scam account doesn't exist. Talked to BT, real account has no suspicious log-in activity. A BT Tech guy said that my mother must have opened a scam email to look at its contents (not clicked the link); then the scammer had "software" that lets him quickly sync my mum's contacts with his, thus taking their details. To me this sounds like complete bullshit but its possible..... Changed the password on the account to be safe, I honestly just think someone managed to log into the account and took the details directly from within the account. But then I also think, why would BT lie to me... Is it possible for scammers to steal your email contacts if you only open an email to view it? Thanks from future me
