Email sucks. It absolutely blows my mind that the CCPA, GDPR, US Dept of Labor, and other laws and organizations classify email addresses as PII yet they get tossed around like it's no big deal. I guess if I think about it a bit, it makes sense. I don't think anyone set out to make email addresses our primary form of identity online but, that's what happened. It's crazy though. Zoominfo, Cognism, Apollo, etc. etc. have hundreds of millions of email records (not to mention phone numbers). Anyone can sign up for their services and spam the crap out of all these people. I'm on these lists unfortunately. Email as a communication platform has become absolute, hot garbage. It's gotten so bad for me over the last few years that I've had to tell people to stop emailing me. I currently have 950 unread in my work inbox at the moment. I can't keep up. Most of these messages are things I don't want or need. Some of it I can legitimately filter out by setting up rules, which has become a constant chore, but most of it is cold sales emails, spam, and fraud. I discussed this with a handful of coworkers to see how it was for them. One of them had 72 thousand unread. I can't even fathom this. I think at that point I would just select all and delete. Ultimately, all I want to do is see and read the messages that are important to me. Unfortunately, I can't seem to do this without a ton of unnecessary effort. And sadly, the problem seems to be systemic. I have these issues with other accounts as well as other service providers and email clients. Given all my troubles, I've been thinking *a lot* about this problem for a while now and I've started to pay more attention to others experiencing the same thing, it comes up all the time. Most of the solutions are generally the same, mark as junk, unsubscribe, block, create allow lists, refine spam rules, etc. I think the real problem comes down to a fundamental problem with email. That is, the address. Once your address is out there, ther
