DMV Request for Re-exmination Process Just got off the phone with someone at the DMV Driver Safety Office. It was a really helpful call. My mind had been filled with different, dramatic scenarios about what might happen after submitting the form. I imagined having to drive my dad to court while he got grilled by a judge. And he couldn't hear the judge bc his hearing is so bad. First, besides being able to drop off the form in person or in the mail, you can also email the form. I didn't know. That will be my preferred method. Here is the [page](https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/driver-education-and-safety/driver-safety-offices/) with address, phone, and email information. Next, if you check the box to remain anonymous, it will be respected. I know people have said this before but I still wasn't totally sure. He said there have been only two instances he's aware of where the information needed to be shared: once when subpoenaed and the other when the person's doctor had filled out the form. He provided insight on the process. It is very clear. After DMV receives the request, these are the sequence of steps: 1. My dad would need to get clearance from his doctor that they are ok to drive. (This is huge! Yes, let's see what the doctor does.) 2. Vision test 3. Written test 4. Driving test At some point there may be some interview. It would not be before getting medical clearance but at what point after that I don't remember when. If the person chooses not to do any of these steps, their license will be taken away. Now that I've learned this, I found a [site](https://www.dmv-defenders.com/dmv-re-examination-process/) that pretty well documents this already lol. doh Anyways, I like how the steps are clear. And I like how I can email it in. Hope this helps others.

California wireless phone usage while driving fine amount I got pulled over by police for using my mobile when stopped at intersection. In the given ticket I saw section CVC 23123.5 mentioned and I looked into the California code and read: http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/veh_code.pdf (d) A violation of this section is an infraction punishable by a base fine of twenty dollars ($20) for a first offense and fifty dollars ($50) for each subsequent offense. (page 493) A few weeks ago I've got a latter from court with fine amount of about $160. I can't figure out where they got that amount. Why did they take this fine amount?

A car exited a parking garage, failing to stop before the sidewalk and i ran into it with my bike. I was riding on a sidewalk in California this morning, when a car failed to stop between the sidewalk and the steet. Even though i was going slow, he pulled out so fast that I only had time to stick out my foot to cusion the fall. This shattered his back passenger window and dented the door. Am i liable for the door/window? By law in CA, is someone required to come to a complete stop before crossing a sidewalk coming out of a parking garage of an apartment complex? Keep in mind he could have avoided the accident by stopping or slowing down to look to his right for oncoming pedestrians/bicycles. Luckily I avoided injury. I only got a scratch on my pinky finger. Edit 1: I found that it's Illegal to bike on the sidewalk in California. http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/hdbk/shr_slow_veh.htm#bike

California Vehicle Sales Tax Help Here is my situation. I bought a car in Texas in May of 1011 while I was a member of the active duty military. I was discharged in July of that year, and returned to California in December. My Texas registration expired at the end of April, and I finally got around to registering my car in California this month (June). I paid for the registration, plus the penalties for not registering my car in December (fine), and received temporary tags. At the time I was told that I wouldn't be required to pay any additional sales/use tax above the amount that I already paid to Texas when I bought the car. I returned today and was I informed that I *would* be required to pay the additional taxes before I get my new plates and tags. Aside from the moral anger I have at the idea of paying California sales tax on an item I didn't even but in California, I decided to do a little digging. What I think I found is that I would otherwise be required to pay the taxes, but there is an exemption for military personnel that buy a car out-of-state, and at the time didn't intend to use it in California. This describes me. I am a Calfornia resident that was active duty in Texas at the time I bought the car. Even though I now live in California, I had intended to stay in Texas longer than I did. Here is the link to the [California Vehicle Code](http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/veh_code.pdf) the particular section is on page A-145 section **6249** Can anybody tell me if I have a case to argue here when I go into the DMV again in Monday? I don't think it would be very cost effective to hire a lawyer for a ~$600 tax bill. But it would be nice to know if I am *probably* in the right. At least so I don't go in there and make a fool of myself. Thank you for any guidance/words/thumbs-up you may be able to provide.

just moved to san diego. my car got towed out of my parking space in my apartment complex on private property in the middle of the night. is this legal? so i moved to san diego on friday night. saturday morning i woke up and my car was gone. a tow truck driver had come by after midnight and found that i was not displaying a parking sticker on my windshield and he towed my car. i know that patrol towing in san diego is illegal, but this tow truck company uses an agency (owned by the same guy that owns the tow truck company) to go around and report that cars are parked illegally. i was hit with a towing fee of over $300. do i have any legal recourse here? also, i'm subleasing this apartment for the summer and i'm not actually on the lease the apartment has a lot more than 15 units in it and i don't think the manager lives on site i looked up the dmv laws and it's difficulty to understand, but here is the law regarding towing from private property. http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d11/vc22658.htm (l) (1) (A) A towing company shall not remove or commence the removal of a vehicle from private property without first obtaining the written authorization from the property owner or lessee, including an association of a common interest development, or an employee or agent thereof, who shall be present at the time of removal and verify the alleged violation, except that presence and verification is not required if the person authorizing the tow is the property owner, or the owner’s agent who is not a tow operator, of a residential rental property of 15 or fewer units that does not have an onsite owner, owner’s agent or employee, and the tenant has verified the violation, requested the tow from that tenant’s assigned parking space, and provided a signed request or electronic mail, or has called and provides a signed request or electronic mail within 24 hours, to the property owner or owner’s agent, which the owner or agent shall provide to the towing company within 4
