My sister found an obituary for my Dad on this site (a generic obit).. One of his friends wrote condolences on the site. I’m not sure if they paid for flowers. It’s disgusting that someone would try to take advantage of the bereaved. There is a website called echovita.com that steals people's obituary information from reputable sites and tries to get people to order items such as flowers under the pretense that the funeral home or a family member will get them. This website also changes the obituary just enough (with wrong information) to make it seem like they're not actually stealing it. This specific instance is over my father-in-law's, but I'm sure there are others that they have done that to as well, without permission from the family. On the website it (supposedly) offers to allow funds generated by the obituary to be shared with the family "if they request it" and to "authorize them to use the original obituary". I personally feel like this is a money-making scam that more people should be aware of. If my sister-in-law hadn't googled his obituary, we would never have known and I'm sure there are others out there that are having their loved ones information stolen so that this company can make money off their loss.
