New Year’s Day in China, Just as hectic as your holidays might be The past New Year’s Day, January first, 2021 was a public holiday in China. It’s not a traditional holiday in China, but more and more people, especially young people are taking it as an occasion to meet and connect with friends and family. So, without planning it, my brother and I bumped into each other at my mum’s place on that day. It has been a while since we last saw one another. I live a few blocks away from mum and visit her weekly. My brother, on the other hand, lives in the other end of the city and visits her monthly. We rarely bump into each other during our visits.  As usual, the bulk of the visit was spent on cooking. Side note, for those who feel obliged to visit your aging parents regularly, cooking for them is a great way to learn about your beloved’s week and allow them to brief you about how all your old neighbors and relatives are doing at the same time.
