Scammers calling from 906-208-9803 contacted me claiming to represent GREAT LAKES as my student loan servicer, even though I had never heard of them handling my loans. They insisted I needed to provide personal financial information immediately to avoid negative consequences on my student loan account. When I checked directly with my actual loan servicer and the Federal Student Aid website, I discovered these callers were fraudulent and GREAT LAKES was being impersonated as part of a broader scam network.

Great Lakes Wildlife Alliance sends out emails to ask for donations. Recently they have been sending out emails once or more per week. They give brief updates, provide some information and ask for donations. They do not include specific information on how they spent donation funds. They say it is mainly for legal action to protect wolves. I sent this organization a $60.00 donation check via certified mail. Sent them an email asking them to confirm the receipt of my donation. They never replied to me. I later learned that Melissa Smith, the executive director of this organization, has embellished her qualifications in the past. This includes her claim she co-wrote a bill, S.B. 93 with Senator Fred Risser, a former U.S. Senator. This claim was false. After not hearing from this organization to confirm the receipt of my check, I stopped payment on my check. Several weeks later I received a letter from Complete Payment Recovery Services, Inc., located in Jacksonville , Florida. They demanded that I pay them $60.00 for a debt involving the Wal-Mart store in Middleton, Wisconsin. I called this store and was told they had no record of me owning this money. My name, address, check number and amount was on this scam letter. All this information was on the check that I mailed to the Great Lakes Wildlife Alliance, headed by Melissa Smith. It is fair to conclude this organization gave this Florida scam company my information. Please see the attached file letter from Complete Payment Recovery Services, Inc. Great Lakes Fashion poses as a Canadian and/or the Netherlands online fashion retailer. It is a CHINA company. A recent purchase of a coat which was described as 'champagne' colour and 'Full length' and pictured as both a light whitish colour belted coat on the model approx mid to low calf. Retailed for $99.99. It was purchased on my original credit card. Arrived apprx 2 weeks later. What was delivered was a BROWN/COPPER colour coat which was about to fingertip length. Not at all the same nor even close to description as advertised. They also offer 30-day refund/return. But of course they do not cover the cost to return. Checked with Canada Post who estimated return fee at $95 and FedEx who estimated return over $100. I submitted a complaint to Great Lakes Fashion who would not cover the cost of return despite the product being clearly not the same product ordered. Lesson learned but Canadian agencies should do more to protect Canadian consumers online given there are over 159 similar complaints from Canadians duped by this company with questionable behaviours and fraudulent online business practice.
