I am attempting to assist a neighbor who is a US Veteran with, more than likely, Alzheimers. He has very little ability to operate his phone, and falls for every scam that comes his way. I, on the other hand, spend a lot of time online and am pretty good at detecting scams. The voicemail these people left on this gentleman's phone was really good, and well timed, probably because he clicked on a link for information about Medicare/Medicaid. The gentleman is currently missing doctor's appointments because he does not know how to use his phone. Also, he was getting 30-50 calls a day before I started getting some of them blocked. So he will block numbers that show up as potential spam, but answer the ones that list a number because he's afraid of missing someone that needs to reach him, or the ones that have a caller ID that pertains to him, like HEALTHCARE. So I've been checking his phone's email, texts, call logs, and voicemail regularly to see exactly what is coming in. The voicemail list is always full of either 4 or 5 second messages or 45 to 47 second messages, most just dead silence, and 99% of them use the 689 area code. (We are in Orlando, FL) So I began to block anything with that area code, until I realized his phone was also a 689 number. This led me to believe there was the possibility of a legitimate call coming from a 689 number. Also, I had found another message prior to this that was for a legitimate appointment he needed to get set up, although not from 689. When I checked the other day, there was a voicemail from 689-208-5358 that was about 35 seconds long, which was unusual, so I listened before blocking and reporting. The message was from "Charles", saying he was trying to reach (Real Name) about a missed appointment at Bio Genetics Laboratory, and asked that he please call back at 727-456-7730, or at the number listed on the caller ID.
