I applied for a UNICEF remote Virtual Assistant position on the Nextdoor app, which requested my name, home and email address, and bank name. A few days later, I received a text from Ronald Cross (724-205-1577) instructing me to confirm my email via [email protected] . He asked follow-up questions, confirmed my home address, and said a check would be mailed to me, instructing me to deposit it immediately upon receipt. After depositing the check, I became suspicious, could not find the original job posting, and contacted local authorities and my bank. Following their advice, I blocked the number and am awaiting further guidance from the bank’s fraud department regarding the check.
