About 15 years ago, my mortgage company foreclosed on my house. I didn't hear anything about owing any money from this transaction for 11 years then I started getting calls from a company (ARS?) saying that I owed $8000+ to Wells Fargo but if I paid in full over the phone that day, they would give me a 75% discount. I asked for proof of this debt and they hung up on me. This happened several times over a period of a month or two and every time I asked for proof they hung up on me so I dismissed this as a scam. A year or so later, I got a few calls again and once again, I would ask for proof and they would hang up. Now the calls have started again but today when i asked for proof or more information, the guy told me that I actually owed money to the IRS not the mortgage company. So with this new information, i called the IRS and they of course told me that I did NOT owe them any money and if I did, they would have sent me a notice in the last 15 years since this debt was supposedly owed to them. She verified that I had filed all of my taxes and that I didn't owe them anything and told me to report it as a scam. The most recent company name is Mayport Asset Recovery. The phone number is from Savannah, TN and is 731-400-9074 but in Feb they called from another number 901-599-8471. Their website looks legit and they have live chat but after i chatted back to tell them that I had spoken to IRS they didn't have anything else to say to me. I let him know that I was reporting them.
