I was called by a person who said their name was Tanya Hanley. My phone showed the call was coming from Learning.com. She gave 844-659-7425 as a return phone number. She said that my son (she had his name and address) had signed up to get free material to help him prepare for college prep tests. She said that the materials could be returned within 30 days for a full refund of $249.95. It sounded like something my son would do and she sounded legit. I provided my cc # and my personal email (she "required" parent email address). My bank flagged the attempted charge as fraudulent and it did not go through. My cc company immediately shut down my card. My Amazon account (linked to my personal email and the same cc) shortly thereafter had someone (not me) trying to obtain products through my account. All passwords for all my accounts have been changed so I have not lost any $. Do not want this to happen to others. Tanya called saying that my son had recently checked a box for free SAT prep materials when registering for the College Board's SAT test (which he had registered for days earlier). She told me that they were going to send us free SAT prep materials. She then indicated they needed a $249.95 deposit for the drive that would be included and that would be fully refundable if returned within 30 days. She said that I could keep all of the other materials and, when asked, said that a return envelope would be included. I gave them my CC number and address and a box arrived by USPS Priority Mail a few days later, but my unease increased when I opened the box. In the box was a flashdrive and 2 CD-ROMS. The prep materials where dated back to the mid 1990s and one CD-ROM had no real data on it (only a single 1 kb cda file). My suspicions hightened, I called the number they provided (844) 659-7425 to ask about the return envelope and if the CD-ROMs must be returned. I left a message and I received a call back (I was surprised) a few hours later. I was told they never provide return envelopes and ALL materials must be returned for my refund. It was shortly after this call, that I noticed that there were two charges from "Academic Enrl", one for the $249.95 I expected and $79.95 that I was not expecting nor that I had authorized. This later charge is a suspected reoccurring charge. I have placed the materials in the mail and sent them to the return address provided (Prep Scores, 10950 Arrow RTE #1053, Rancho Cucamonga, CA 91729). I am now waiting to see if my money will be returned as promised. [BBB Scam Type: Phishing] [Business: Academic Enrl] [Location: WA, USA- 99362]
