Nov 18, 2025: Entire neighborhood was blanketed with post-card sized notices (6" x 4") from "California Energy Initiative" with the headline, "NOTICE PG&E CUSTOMERS" (English and Spanish on alternate sides). Card describes an alleged required upgrade of electric lines and infrastructure to reduce fire risk, and converting homes to "Self-Generation". The cards make vague reference to incentives including "Federal Government ITC". The cards attempt to induce fear and uncertainty by saying customers who are not enrolled in the "S.G.I.P." program "will pay up to 37% more for electricity to cover transmission and distribution costs." The cards then claim "Assessments by state-licensed program administrators are being scheduled this week to determine eligibility, at no out-of-pocket cost." There is a phone number "877-743-1143", a QR code linking to "link.sendlink.co/qr/FH569AilSWOv" and "Distributed by: California Energy Initiative". There is no address or other identifying information. We did not attempt to open the web link from the QR code. These cards were attached to each residential garage door with a gummy adhesive strip that could potentially damage paint. Cards are made of quality stock with plastic coating. These were clearly made to look official and appear to be a variant of an existing scam. [BBB Scam Type: Phishing] [Business: California Energy Initiative Date Re] [Location: CA, USA - 94044]
A card was left on my garage door with a message about S.G.I.P. and if I qualified I could have equipment installed for no out of pocket expenses. I called the number 877-743-1143 and spoke to a female who set up an appointment with me that I am now going to cancel since it seems evident that it is a scam. California Energy Initiative post the card on the door said NOTICE PG&E CUSTOMERS with only the telephone number of (877)743-1143 without any address, website nor the email. [BBB Scam Type: Utility] [Business: California Energy Initiative Date Re] [Location: CA, USA - 95014]
