The below scam is almost exactly the same script as reported by someone on the Better Business Bureau website 3/27. The purported names of the scammers are the only significant difference. Citi called me on my cell phone 3/31 to report a large attempted charge on a credit card. I do not have nor never had one from Citi. A “Jane Gabriel” (646-287-2811; ID #CBB0027971), claimed it had been issued 3/10 and sent to me at 36 Hamilton Ave, Unit CS, on Staten Island, which doesn't belong to me. They did report my home address as the billing address. They said the card was issued by the Citibank Staten Island branch at 577 Bay St., Staten Island, NY 10304. They said this person used the credit card to buy a gun 3/17 for $600.00 and attempt to buy 3 firearms 3/31 from midwayUSA.com at a cost of $1,800.61. After confirming I knew nothing about this, they asked that I file a police report and connected me, saying they should connect to the precinct near the branch. I was then connected to Dabis Daniel, badge number 6940, who claimed he was an NYPD officer. (There is a Linked In profile for Daniel Dabis, NYPD; he does not resemble the person on the later video call. He also appears to have badge 6940.) He asked that we continue our conversation over Microsoft Teams or WhatsApp. We used WhatsApp (929-597-0259.). He appeared online, dressed in a police uniform at a desk; he was wearing a crisp shirt, tie, brass, but also an odd style cap for a U.S. police officer. He spoke in a South Asian accent. He took my information and wanted me to come into the station. I said I was in Texas and could not travel. He said I could file the police report over a video link and we scheduled a time April 1; he asked for both me and my wife. (Both he and the Citi “Jane Gabriel” person asked if I followed the SOP protocol when I provided my confidential information. SOP meant a statement of purpose with a date, sign [BBB Scam Type: Phishing] [Business: Citi then NYPD Imposter] [Location: TX, U
