Not sure if this is phishing or the result of phishing, but I found my phone number in a database of fake "Spokeo" sites along with some odd/creepy code language. Anyone know more? I fell down the rabbit hole out of annoyance today and stumbled upon some creepy interwebs shit. The long and the short of it is I've been getting frequent spam calls lately, so I decided to Google my phone number to see if it was posted anywhere strange. Turns out, not only was my number found in a database of sketchy web pages, but so were the phone numbers of many people I know. So here's the deal. Usually when you search a phone number on Google you'll get your typical people search results. Whitepages, OKCaller, Spokeo, etc. At least that's what I thought. Well, those came up, but among the results were these odd .xyz domains such as "heterometabolic.xyz." The preview text snippet Google showed of the webpage was this eerie language that did not make sense in any context. It was always different depending on whose number I Googled, but I found things like *"crystal watches the secret grey card? In exile bean eating cowboy! Tammy comes toeye pricks. Bylaws and annual reports. Received and noted. Avoid excessive watering. Outdated divers in the cage. Here begins the very moment. Commissions adjustment. Hank states the opposite. Compost sizes and advice."* Among other nonsense. It almost appeared to be logs of someone speaking in code, but they appeared under the search results for all of the phone numbers I Googled. It also wasn't always under an .xyz domain. Sometimes it would show what appeared to be an IP address search result followed by the same gibberish text. Here's where it gets weirder: When I clicked the website (which perhaps I shouldn't have) **NONE** of that preview text appeared. Instead, it simply brought me to a mirror of Spokeo (**big WTF**) So I played around with the URL and by deleting a slug or sub-domain, I was able to access these websites which show a lis
