Having trouble choosing an email provider Hi guys, I’ve been lurking on the sub for the past few days and I still can’t decide on what to choose. I’ve bought purely mail but I seem to be tagged as spam a lot and it seems too much barebone for me. I’m currently looking at mailbox.org, mailfence.com and runbox.com. My main choosing points are price, privacy and domain reputation. I don’t want to be tagged as spam, have a usable interface(preferably a phone app) and pay less than 4euro per month(I’m from poorer parts of Europe). I don’t really care about file uploading and aliases. My current email is gmail so I guess anything will be an upgrade but I’ll be thankful for any suggestions and feedback.

Mailfence has a weird rule in their ToS I'm looking into leaving Gmail behind. My first option was Proton, but given their recent termination of journalist accounts I don't feel very confident in them. Besides, I prefer having IMAP and using FairEmail, rather than a proprietary app. So, I was looking into other secure email providers, and *actually* reading their Terms of Service for a change, in particular regarding sudden termination and the like, when I found this absurdity in [Mailfence's](https://mailfence.com/en/terms.jsp): >**Member conduct** You are responsible for all content posted and activity that occurs in your account. It is strictly forbidden to use the Service for: (...) Uploading, sending or promoting any Content related to nudity, sexuality, sex, pornography (...) >**General conditions** >(...) The Service may, but has no obligation to, remove by its sole discretion, content which is (...) pornographic, obscene or otherwise objectionable (...). WTF? So, does anyone know of secure email providers that, in addition to offering: * IMAP * S/MIME and/or OpenPGP * Encrypted E2E zero-knowledge storage * No sudden termination without a detailed justification and the right to prove oneself innocent Also has the common sense of: * Allowing adults to exchanging fully legal content with other consenting adults? Thunderbird compatibility What is the best secure email provider with thunderbird support and the option to use a custom domain? I am currently looking between mailfence.com and mailbox.org but am open to alternatives.

Mailfence.com experience Mailfence: An extremely disappointing experience. Setup of domain name: Very opaque. It also took 4 days for the propagation to register. I am not sure if mailfence was at all responsible but a transfer propagation to another provider was almost instant! Usage: I was able to connect the email to both a Linux client (Kmail) and an Android client relatively easy. My main use however was to use that domain email for service with my domain server. This did NOT work. Both Wordpress and Invoiceninja could not connect to Mailfence. Four other email providers could do so! Telnet could not connect to Mailfence. I tested with 3 others successfully. Mailfence's response was: wrong configs. Successful connection with two other clients on other devices as well as Telnet belies this. Response time: Mailfence replies were anywhere between two to five days. Completely unacceptable for paid support. Storage: Mailfence also offers storage. Connection via KDE Dolphin on a Plasma desktop was finicky. It sometimes worked - sometimes not. On top of this files that were stored there were all gone the next day! Mailfence did not give a reason as to why they disappeared. Their storage cannot be trusted. Open source: Mailfence has promoted its intentions to go Open Source but this seems to be an unfulfilled ongoing claim. Recompense for lack of service: Mailfence refused to refund.
