Is the email client important in terms of privacy? Hey, I started working a couple of months ago, so now I have sufficent funds to finance myself in terms of services. I've been thinking about switching my email provider to a more privacy concerned one (to: posteo.de from: gmail.com ) and I want to keep it as practical as possible so I wondered if I need to change my email client as well to really profit of the privacy benefits or if the email client doesn't really matter. I'm currently trying to implement practical solutions for a more privacy concerned life for myself, I know that I can't reach full privacy while being on the internet and so on. I just cant afford to give up too much practicality within my life. I also want to make this change because of "recent" events in the USA πΊπΈ and move more towards EU πͺπΊ infrastructure. I've already tried researching this but many sources I found were conflicting and left me even more confused than in the beginning. TL;DR; Does the email client matter in terms of privacy or is the provider the major factor in email security and privacy?
Posteo charitable donations 2025. What do you think? Someone posted this on r/posteo and I thought it would make an interesting discussion here. https://posteo.de/en/blog/donations-our-engagement-in-2025 I've seen some people complain that Posteo is too political. What do you think? Would you consider doing business with them or be discouraged from giving them money based on their donations?
How reliable is Yahoo! Mail for important things such as buying domain names with, or buying hosting packages with? I am looking for a new email account, a secure one, for connecting my account with my domain registrar to, as well as my hosting account. In other words, an email account secure enough for important things such as buying domain names and hosting. Before looking into paid options such as Proton, Tuta, [Posteo.de](http://Posteo.de), [Mailbox.org](http://Mailbox.org) and MailFence, I was wondering if I'm not overlooking a trustworthy free option. Yahoo has been around for over 2 decades and is unlikely to ever go out of business. Unlike Gmail and Hotmail/Outlook, it is not connected to any other apps by any means (at least, not that I know of) ; I for sure use no Yahoo services at the moment, not on my smartphone and not on my desktop computer. Apparently Yahoo accepts Google Authenticator for 2FA (which I'm not sure is trustworthy? Does using Google Authenticator not link your account from an external service to your Google Account on your same phone? -- because I do not want my different accounts to be linked) So would you say Yahoo Mail is reliable and secure enough for the purpose of connecting my domain registrar account and hosting account to? There are some security-focused providers out there: Tuta, Protonmail, Mailfence, Posteo, [Mailbox.org](http://Mailbox.org), ... But I thought of checking out the free options first, and check the paid ones only if no reliable free option exists. I'm trying to move my domain registrar account and hosting account away from Gmail.
Providers with full PGP inbox encryption support Mailbox.org and Posteo.de both offer a feature that automatically encrypts all mail with your PGP key. Essentially each incoming email that isn't encrypted already by the sender will be encrypted automatically with your public PGP key. You can then only read your email if you have access to your private PGP key, even if someone had access to the server. Posteo don't obtain your private PGP key at any point so it's true zero-knowledge encryption. Do any other providers offer this? I'm aware that Proton and Tuta also encrypt their inboxes, however this is not done in a standard way. Here's some information about the feature Posteo provide: https://posteo.de/en/help/how-do-i-activate-inbound-encryption-with-my-public-pgp-key
Does anyone have any experience with Postale.io? I just discovered an email provider called Postale.io on the OpenPGP website here: https://www.openpgp.org/software/ under the category "Webmail Provider with In-Browser Cryptography". Looking at their website, they seem to be affordable ($11/year for the cheapest plan, comparable with Posteo.de) and they support custom domains. But I have no idea whether they are reliable or if they are well regarded from a privacy perspective. I can see they encrypt mail at rest and obviously support OpenPGP in the webmail interface. Is anyone familiar with them?
Which one is better, mailbox.org or posteo.de? Hello everyone, I am looking for a private email for my personal use (i have zoho+duckduckgo for spam and unimportant verifications, a free proton account for important verifications), and hoping having a highly usable caldav calendar and imap/smtp feature. Also the price matters because i am a student (better no more than 3 euro per month). So I narrowed down my choice to mailbox, posteo, disroot and murena. I cannot register on murena, and I think maybe it's not a good idea to pick disroot as my main account since they only offer a free plan and I cannot pay more to upgrade my storage (but maybe 2gb is already abundant, I'm not sure about that). So finally it's mailbox and posteo, both have 2gb at 1 euro and 10gb at 3 euro, posteo's pricing is much more flexible so I can adjust the plan, but I didn't test on their calendar feature. I read posteo's documents, and it says subscribed calendars (like public holidays) won't be able to sync across devices, which is kinda inconvenient, but it's ok to subscribe to them separately in thunderbird (all devices i got are a laptop and an android phone). Mailbox has unlimited calendars and task syncing (i love this feature), and I have to admit that their domain looks much more decent on a resume haha I am entangled for more than a fortnight honestly, so i am posting to seek advice. Thanks!
Migrating away from Countermail. Which (paid) private/secure email provider? Greetings! A few months ago I noticed that **Countermail** was starting to behaving erraticaly. Their ticketing support seemed unresponsive for months, and they've recently upped the service price to $20 for just 3 months. Their premium service used to cost like $80 for two years. I decided to do some research about this, and I see that my spidey senses were correct. There are several posts in this very subreddit about the topic. I've been using Cmail since like 2014 or so (10 years! Wow, how time flies), but now it seems that they've finally served their purpose, and it's time for me to move on. So I'm looking to migrate to a new secure and privacy-focused email provider before Cmail finally runs out of steam and sinks completely. **Some things that I am looking for are:** * Servers hosted within the European Union, preferably some country with good privacy laws * I don't mind, if it is a paid service * OpenPGP support, preferably that encrypts all incoming email automatically like Countermail did * IMAP support that can work with local Thunderbird/GnuPG, and the pgp private key on a smartcard * Offers several email aliases (at least 10) * Endorsed by the privacy community My first pick was Protonmail since I already have an old account there, but they somehow managed to score two red flags while I was re-evaluating them. The first alarm went off when I noticed that they were doing browser fingerprinting on their login page. What the hell is a privacy-focused company doing with a spyware script on their website? No no no, just no! The second alarm went off when someone mentioned to me that their networks are routed over some Israeli "security" company (Radware). Unfortunately, everything Israeli is an automatic red flag in my book, and that sadly disqualifies protonmail. So there you have it, it's back to the drawing board for me. Thus, I am now lookig for a new provider that I can

Mailbox org or Posteo de Hello, which email provider would u suggest to choose [Mailbox.org](https://mailbox.org/) or [Posteo.de](https://Posteo.de)? //edit More informations Actually I'm using Tutanota. Unfortunately I miss possibility to remove aliases, also I think PGP keys protection is a bit more secure (as i store keys on my pc). I'm using email for bank account, school stuff, service accounts (like games, reddit, etc.). I have a lot of important (at least for me) data on my email. I'm using Android and Windows (for now, because I need it for school purposes, anyway I want to migrate to GNU/Linux as far as possible). I want encrypted provider, because I'm too noob to selfhost, while I want to get rid of Google, Microsoft and other companies shit. Why Mailbox and Posteo? Because they are recommended by [privacytools.io](https://privacytools.io/) and they support PGP. Also price, I would like to stay with 12 euro per year.
