I received a spoof cell phone call from 303-463-0128 claiming to be a chase rep regarding a fraud account. Rep then transferred me to "experian" representative to help investigate fraud. The male on the phone had the last 4 of my SSN and asked me to verify my DOB. He also had a list of all my CC's, balances and CC types. He then recorded my call stating "yes" to verify all of my accounts. When i did not have the cards in front of me, he said he will call me back in 1 hr. I then proceeded to call the Chase cc num on the back of my card, they confirmed they did not try to reach me. I called the number back that he called me from, and he claimed he was from Experian and began to get upset as i asked more information about his legitimacy. I then googled the phone number to experian and found 1800-397-3742... PLOT TWIST - Thats not Experian, it is another fraud number. The correct number to experian is 1888-397-3742! be very careful at dialing.. [BBB Scam Type: Credit Cards] [Business: Unknown] [Location: MA, USA - 01960]
I needed to remove a credit freeze on my credit report. I misdialed the phone number on the bottom of my credit report for Experian Credit. I meant to call 888-397-3742 and instead dialed 800-397-3742. The person that answered took down my information, SS#, Address etc. and then proceeded to tell me I had 2 choices: 1) Mail in my Driver's License, SS# Card, and either a bank statement or a utility bill and wait 2-3 weeks or 2) pay $350 to speak to a counselor that will try to unfreeze my credit. When I spoke to my loan officer, she said it shouldn't cost anything. Then I compared the phone # on my credit report to the phone # I had dialed. I called the 800 # again and they answer as "Information Bureau". I don't know if it's legit, but they should not be presenting themselves as the credit agency and requiring a $350 fee for something that is free. I was able to unlock it myself once I called the correct number. I just feel that this company is aware of how many people could easily misdial the 888 and they are scamming people out of money. I definitely will be freezing my credit now. [BBB Scam Type: Phishing] [Business: Information Bureau] [Location: WA, USA - 98203]
