Initial automated system call from Spectrum (my internet company) told me my bills were to increase next cycle, but I was under the impression that my promotional credit was to last until July 2026. Was told to call back, and once I did, they told me that the federal government ended subsidies for telecommunications companies and so all previous promotions were subject to cancellation. Was then told that I had two options going forward before my bills went up. A 2 yr contract with Spectrum or a new contract between Spectrum and Target Corporation to reduce monthly bills 50%. Only catch is prepay of 1 year but the low rate would last 36 months. Was billed a "subscription fee" to change to the new system of $1.99, which was then confirmed through my account email with Spectrum and in my online account. Then I was told that there are two ways to pay for this in order to receive the low rate: Target Credit Card (but not the Redcard) or Target gift cards. This made me suspicious so I said I would pay later once I got home. I then looked up the scam and saw it was listed already on the BBB. The name of the scammer is supposedly Austin White, ext 742, and the "billing dept" number is supposedly 888-263-4155. Since then, I have received two voice messages telling me (1) that I have not paid (from number 877-297-1362), and (2) because I have not paid, they will charge the credit card on file with a $99 cancellation fee and terminate my service (from number 877-305-4341). I have already spoken to my internet company and they confirmed that my service has not changed, though they could not explain how my payment of $1.99 was sent via their system. I suspect their system was hacked. .css-c8hvdp{--Grid-columns:12;-webkit-flex-direction:row;-ms-flex-direction:row;flex-direction:row;min-width:0;box-sizing:border-box;display:-webkit [BBB Scam Type: Utility] [Business: Spectrum Imposter] [Location: NY, USA - 12204]
