Debt-reduction pitches dominate area code 585 with a concentration that is difficult to overstate. Of 5,331 total complaints logged between February and June 2026, fully 2,957 fall into the debt-relief category, covering credit cards, mortgages, and student loans. That single category accounts for more than 55 percent of all reported activity across 2,107 numbers. At rank 14 out of 358 area codes tracked, and third among the 39 New York state codes, 585 is not a fringe problem.

The heaviest single number in the code is 585-763-8145, which drew 332 complaints for debt-reduction calls alone. Two others carrying the same pitch, 585-767-6107 and 585-946-0002, added 41 and 28 complaints respectively, while 585-946-0001 and 585-200-8003 contributed another 19 and 20. The operation is clearly spread across multiple numbers, several of which share the 585-946 prefix, suggesting coordinated dialing infrastructure rather than isolated bad actors.

Impersonation calls form the clear second tier. 585-767-6102 accumulated 258 complaints in the government, business, and family-impersonation category, making it the second-most-reported number in the entire code. 585-552-7560 added 50 complaints in the same bucket, and 585-946-0001 rounds out that cluster with 19. Together these three numbers account for most of the 499 impersonation complaints logged for 585.

Although the code is geographically anchored to Rochester and Batavia, New York, complaints have reached Florida and California, and reported origination locations include Denver, Omaha, and Dallas alongside the New York entries. That geographic spread points to spoofed local numbers being used by operations with no meaningful tie to the Rochester metro. The FCC has flagged prerecorded delivery on at least 54 instances, consistent with autodialer campaigns cycling through many numbers quickly.

The pattern here is a high-volume, multi-number debt-pitch operation running in parallel with a smaller but notably aggressive impersonation cluster. The debt campaign alone has generated nearly six complaints per number across its active lines, and activity is still being reported as of June 2026. The combination of coordinated number rotation, prerecorded delivery, and cross-state reach suggests this operation has the infrastructure to sustain and expand its footprint well beyond its current complaint volume.
