Area Code Report
Scam Calls from Area Code 608
Dropped calls and silent hang-ups define the scam-call profile of Wisconsin's 608 area code. Of 1,327 total complaints logged across 554 numbers between February and June 2026, 246 fall into the dropped-call-or-no-message category, making it the single largest complaint bucket by a notable margin. The standout number is 608-371-6666, which alone drew 72 complaints in that category, making it the most-reported number in the entire code by a wide distance. Two other dropped-call numbers, 608-315-5876 and 608-571-3751, added 10 and 9 complaints respectively.
Impersonation scams rank second with 114 complaints, covering callers pretending to be government agencies, businesses, or personal contacts. Debt-reduction pitches targeting credit cards, mortgages, and student loans follow closely at 95 complaints, and medical and prescription solicitations account for 45 more. Warranty and protection-plan calls, concentrated in number 608-420-7222 with all 11 of its complaints logged in that category, add 13.
Four of the eight most-reported numbers carry no complaint category on record. Together, 608-344-5854 at 20 complaints, 608-585-5720 at 13, 608-927-6656 at 10, and 608-631-7727 at 8 represent 51 complaints with no disclosed pitch type, suggesting either very short calls that ended before a scheme was presented or unreported content.
Geographically, complaints reference Madison, Sun Prairie, and Appleton in Wisconsin alongside Bayfield, Colorado, indicating that spoofed local Wisconsin numbers are reaching consumers well outside the state's borders. The code ranks 16th among 43 Wisconsin-assigned area codes by sibling rank, placing it in the upper third of in-state scam volume.
The combination of a high dropped-call count, a dominant single number at 72 complaints, and a cluster of high-volume numbers with no disclosed category points to an operation that is probing for live answers before escalating to a specific pitch. The activity has remained ongoing through June 2026, and the unclassified numbers leave the full scope of the operation difficult to pin down.
