My mother found a puppy on Royal Border Collie Puppies and was contacted by text from a man named “James Johnson”. He told her the puppy was available for $750 and it was located in Houston, TX. My mother is located in NM. The man said the puppy could be shipped to her for $180. He requested the money via Zelle. My mother paid and she was told the puppy would arrive the next evening. The next morning she was contacted by another man- Moss Frank, claiming to be from the airline and mysmartlogistics.com. He reported that the puppy had arrived at Will Roger’s airport in Oklahoma, and was evaluated. They determined its body temp was low and it needed a specialized crate that she could rent for $930 (refundable upon the puppies delivery) or purchased for $1,900. My mother rented the crate. A few hours later she was contacted again, and was told the airline had updated policies and she needed to provide insurance for the puppy costing $1,500 (refundable upon delivery). My mother contacted the “breeder- James” who was surprised by this change and agreed to shoulder $500 of the cost. My mother used CashApp to pay the other $1,000. All along my mother is worried about the condition of the puppy and it being stranded in a crate in a cold airport for 2 days. She gets yet another point of contact, claiming that the puppy now needs vaccinations before it can continue being shipped. This costing $2,200, to be paid by CashApp. She contacted the breeder, who continued to express that he was surprised by this. I stepped in and called “James” the breeder. His accent did not sound American. He stood by his claims of ignorance and said he would send documents verifying the puppy and its parents licensing/registration, breeding/kennel license, and receipts for all transactions.
