I received a call from a woman identifying herself as Jane Gabriel, an employee of CITI bank, Staton Office, asking for me by a name I'd formerly used. I indicated that it that was me, but I had not used that last name for years. She then used my correct last name, and asked about a $1800 credit card charge I'd made online on a new credit card I'd obtained this month. I indicated I did not get a new card from them. She indicated that the card was taken out under a NY address (76 Hamilton Avenue, Unit 6S, Staton Island NY) and gave a billing address that was my current address. She indicated the charge was for the purchase of three guns on 3/24/2026, said that a prior purchase of one gun in the amount of $600 had already been made and cleared, and wanted to know if I'd made these purchases. I confirmed that I had not. She provided her direct line (646 226 4408) and an email address for police use ( [email protected] ) for police sto use. She then informed me to make a fraud report to a branch of the NYPD, and that CITI bank would follow up the credit card as a fraud. I called the police at Staten Island NY as directed, who decline to take my fraud report over the phone and indicated I should make the report to my local police. When I made the report to my local police, the officer attempted to confirm the Citi represenatative's return number provided to me. When he called he received a message that this number was likely being used for scam purposes. Shortley thereafter, the original woman actually returned the call, indicating that she saw she had three missed calls from the officer's number. He identified himself as a police officer investigating a fraud complaint, and she immediately hung up.
