I tried to log into my Yahoo email and found someone had set up 2nd factor identification using an authenticator app. When I kept trying alternate ways to sign in, I was directed to this number, 800-741-7610, for help. When I finally reached a person, they said my account was locked because of multiple sign-in attempts. They said they would "escalate" the problem and someone would call me back in 24 to 48 hours. When that didn't happen, I got suspicious about the number and looked it up online. That confirmed that other people have been scammed with this phone number. I was locked out of my Yahoo email address suddenly. I attempted to get back into it the normal way (resetting password, having a code sent to my backup email, etc). Nothing worked so I called a phone number on Yahoo.com for customer support (1-800-741-7610). The woman who answered was not able to help me reset my password; I was not able to access my backup email. She had me take a photo of the front and back of my drivers license, and a photo of my face. [BBB Scam Type: Identity Theft] [Business: Yahoo / impostor] [Location: OR, USA - 97219]
I attempted to log into my Yahoo account and selected “forgot password.” During the process, I was given the phone number 800-741-7610 to call for support, which I believed was legitimate at the time. When I called the number, everything seemed legit until there were multiple long pauses where no one spoke, which I found unusual and unprofessional for customer service, as I was not placed on hold or given any explanation. While on the call, I became suspicious and looked up the phone number, where I found reports that it was a scammer's number, so I immediately hung up. I followed yahoo.com instructions to reset my password. Since I have changed my phone number. The process becomes a dead loop. The website pop up a screen with a phone number asked me to call 1800-741-7610. I was so trusted yahoo.com website. I made the call, during the process, it started screen recording, it recorded my drive license and my face. After that I was told that they cannot verify my information and cannot help me to reset my password. After the phone call ended. I checked Google, this phone number 1800-741-7610 listed as the scammer’s phone number. It causes tremendous amount stress for me, I have to lock and put alert everywhere. It is unbelievable that such reputable company’s website can be hacked. It seems like this problem has been there for so many years, the scammers are still free at large. There is no way to report problem, no way to talk with yahoo.com. It is unacceptable! Now I am afraid that scammer can use my information to ruin my life.
