I went online looking for private health insurance and was sold what I was told was a PHCS PPO plan with Aetna. As I reviewed the signature documents, I questioned the agent about why the PHCS PPO plan was not listed. Instead, the documents showed multiple itemized charges related to the American Business Association and an ARC WellnessFIRST Premier Care Membership Enhancement Package. These are discount based membership programs and have no connection to the health insurance I was told I was purchasing. I signed the documents only because the agent assured me the PHCS PPO details would be emailed shortly and claimed it was included as part of the WellnessFIRST membership, which it is not. I later called Membership Services at 888 409 0280 to get clarification. I was treated poorly for asking basic questions and was transferred to an Affordable Care Act department. That department attempted to collect my personal information to enroll me with another provider through what they claimed was the Healthcare Marketplace, even though the number was not associated with the official marketplace. I refused to provide any information and hung up. I then contacted a second Membership Services number at 844 893 8080 to cancel. They repeatedly asked for excessive private information and would not proceed with the cancellation. The call was recorded, and all that should have been required was my membership ID and phone number. At that point, I ended the call and sent a cancellation email, which has gone unanswered. I have notified American Express and will dispute the charge once it posts. I was explicitly promised a 30 day free look period by the original agent, and the documents state that cancellation is allowed within 30 days through customer service. That claim is false. The process appears designed to extract additional personal information rather than honor cancellations.
