I (Di Yan) am filing this complaint on behalf of my mother in law (Makiko Taya). On Dec 11th, 2025 Makiko was having trouble installing her new printer. She searched for Canon printer help and found a number 1(888)-929-2671 that she thought was the Canon help line. The website uses Canon’s official logo and she was told they were contracted by Canon to provide tech help for her printer. However, Canon’s actual help line listed on the user manual of the printer is 1(800)-652-2666. She spoke to three male voices who instructed her to download the Ultraviewer program. The person on the phone then used Ultraviewer to remote access her computer. They installed some drivers and they were able to get the printer to connect. However, afterwards, they asked her to provide a check for $249.00 to Flash Services LLC. She asked for an address to mail the check to and they told her that it would take too long for the check to arrive by mail. They instead asked her to scan her check, which they were able to view through her computer remotely. This allowed them to see her bank account number and obtain her signature. She realized at that point that this was unusual but because they had remote control of her computer she was worried about what would happen if she didn’t pay. They also tried to get her to sign up for a monthly service, which she declined. A log of activity from the Ultraviewer program on her desktop lists Ryan Norris as the user who accessed this program during the time in question. My mother in law tracked the activity of her bank account and noted that the $249 was withdrawn on 12/15. When we came to visit her for Christmas on 12/20, she told us what happened and we immediately filed this report. We have since changed her bank account number but we are concerned that her computer, WiFi network and identity may be compromised.
