That pairing points to a debt-themed spoofing operation: the area code's second-largest complaint category is debt reduction, with 44 complaints covering credit cards, mortgages, and student loans, sitting just behind the 74 impersonation complaints that lead the dataset.

The highest-volume number, 802-216-0163, has 14 complaints and is classified squarely in the impersonation category. Two other numbers in the top eight share that same classification: 802-577-2722 with 8 complaints and 802-424-9903 with 5. Together those three numbers account for 27 impersonation complaints on their own, suggesting a small cluster of lines doing sustained, coordinated work rather than a broad spray of one-off calls.

Several numbers in the top group carry complaint counts without a logged category. 802-216-6003 drew 9 complaints, 802-520-8493 drew 7, 802-595-0102 drew 6, and 802-216-0419 drew 5. The 802-216 prefix appears three times across the top numbers — 0163, 6003, and 0419 — which may indicate sequential number acquisition within a single block.

The 43 dropped-call or no-message complaints are worth noting structurally. That volume is nearly equal to the debt-reduction figure, and a high dropped-call rate alongside live-answered calls in a 28-to-17 ratio suggests probing behavior: lines are being dialed to verify active numbers before a live agent or recording is deployed.

Reported locations cluster in small Vermont towns — Saint Albans, Grafton, Randolph, Hinesburg, and Fairfax — yet complaints also arrive from Texas and Florida, meaning the spoofed 802 prefix is reaching well outside the state it mimics. With activity logged continuously from February through June 2026 and no sign of tapering, the operation appears stable and geographically expanding behind a locally trusted area code.
