Campaign Narrative

Based on consumer reports and regulatory data, a sophisticated mortgage impersonation scam has emerged using a coordinated network of sequential phone numbers and multiple mortgage company identities. This campaign operates through seven connected phone numbers in the 833-408-15XX range (8334081584, 8334081586, 8334081587, 8334081591, 8334081592, 8334081593, and 8334081597), which are being reported together by consumers who have encountered this scheme.

The scammers are impersonating four legitimate mortgage companies with varying levels of consumer complaint history: CORNERSTONE MORTGAGE, INC. (12 CFPB complaints), Freedom Mortgage Company (9,399 CFPB complaints), Rocket Mortgage, LLC (7,015 CFPB complaints), and RESIDENTIAL MORTGAGE CORP (2 CFPB complaints). Community reports reveal the scammers' sophisticated approach, with victims receiving deceptive mail from entities calling themselves "Mortgage Service Center," "First Cornerstone Mortgage LLC," or "Residential Mortgage." These fraudulent communications contain accurate personal mortgage information including county records, mortgage dates, mortgage ID numbers, original loan amounts, and actual mortgage company names, suggesting the scammers have access to public records or mortgage databases.

The relationship analysis shows CORNERSTONE MORTGAGE, INC. has been reported together with five of the seven phone numbers (833-408-1593, 833-408-1587, 833-408-1591, 833-408-1584, and 833-408-1597), while Freedom Mortgage Company and Rocket Mortgage, LLC have each been connected to two numbers in consumer reports. RESIDENTIAL MORTGAGE CORP shows the strongest connection confidence (0.50) with number 833-408-1597. The phone numbers themselves demonstrate coordinated operation, with multiple cross-connections between numbers like 833-408-1597 and 833-408-1587, and 833-408-1586 with 833-408-1593, indicating consumers are receiving calls from multiple numbers within the same fraudulent operation.

Consumer impact appears significant based on community reports describing urgent-sounding mail pieces with messages like "PLEASE CALL UPON RECEIPT OF THIS NOTICE" and "We have been trying to reach you regarding a matter of importance as it relates to your mortgage." The scammers are targeting homeowners with existing mortgages, using publicly available mortgage records to create convincing impersonation attempts that could lead to identity theft, fraudulent loan modifications, or advance fee scams.

To protect yourself from this campaign, never respond to unsolicited mortgage-related mail or calls, even if they contain accurate personal information. Legitimate mortgage servicers will not use high-pressure tactics or urgent language in initial communications. If contacted by any entity claiming to represent your mortgage company, hang up immediately and call your actual mortgage servicer directly using the phone number on your official mortgage statements. Do not click any links in emails or text messages related to these contacts. Verify the legitimacy of any mortgage company by checking their license status with your state's financial regulatory agency and searching for the phone numbers online to see if others have reported them as fraudulent. Report all suspicious mortgage-related contacts to the FTC at reportfraud.ftc.gov and to the FCC for unwanted calls.

This represents a high-threat campaign due to the sophisticated use of accurate personal mortgage data and coordinated phone number rotation designed to evade detection. The sequential numbering pattern and multiple company impersonations suggest an organized operation with significant resources. Consumers should remain vigilant for any unexpected mortgage-related communications and verify all contacts through official channels. Financial institutions and regulatory agencies should be alerted to monitor for increased mortgage impersonation attempts using this phone number range and company name variations.
