Received a phone call from a woman claiming to be with Merchant Support Services, working for my credit card processing company, PayAnywhere. She introduced herself and explained the reason for her call was regarding a recent lawsuit in which my business was entitled to reimbursement compensation. I don't recall the exact amount the reimbursement was for, but it was in the $800 range. She claimed it was supposed to be reflected in our October statement. She wanted me to grab our October statement and look over it to see if our company had already received it. I let her know we had not received any reimbursement. She proceeded to explain that the lawsuit was in reference to Visa overcharging for processing fees. Usually, when PayAnywhere calls, they ask to speak with the account holder directly. She did not once ask by name to speak to the account holder. She then said that she would issue a claim to the audit team to reissue the payment. She gave me a case number. I did not think of it as a scam until she asked me to send over the statement to show that the reimbursement was not issued. I did not understand why they could not just see on their end that nothing appeared. She said I would be able to fax, email, or text over the statement and I was able to black out our account number before sending it. I asked her for the phone number to text it to, and she gave me (209)719-2805. At that point, I became skeptical because I knew for a fact that our credit card processing company was not based anywhere near California, so it did not make sense that the area code she wanted me to text was our same area code. I let her know I would send it over shortly, and she insisted I send it over while she was still on the line. She claimed she had to give me a confirmation code that could only be given after the statement was received. I used an excuse that our company's cell phone was not avail [BBB Scam Type: Bank/Credit Card Company Imposter] [Business: Merchant Support
