My son, who lives with us, received a letter from an unidentified business, describing an 'urgent matter' regarding our residence and a mortgage on it. Attached was a document resembling a check for $199.00. The letter contained strong and authoritative language, including SEVERAL PHRASES IN ALL CAPS. The only contact info for the business was a toll-free telephone number 1-888-788-4779. We did not take any action on the letter (other than to shred it!), but we wanted to report it to keep this scammer from victimizing anybody. I received a letter titled “final notice” and it listed my last lender, name and property address. The letter reads “We reserve the right to revoke allocated waiver after 7 days of receiving this notice.” They ask that I immediately call 888-788-4779, M-F 9am to 6pm, so I called and was told to enter the property code (8901821488) included on the letter. I did not comply. The letter also includes something that looks like a check for $199.00, but the following is written on the bottom of the check “Not all consumers have previous coverage. Not affiliated with R***** Mortgage LLC.” I googled phone number and BBB notice popped up so I’m reporting it. [BBB Scam Type: Phishing] [Business: None listed] [Location: TX, USA- 77088]

I recieved a letter in the mail that looks like a check or paystub from supposedly my mortgage company, Lennar Mortgage. It describes the "right to revoke an allocated waiver after 7 days of recieving this notice." I recently purchased a home. After googling what an allocated waiver is and then the phone number, 1-888-788-4779, I was lead to a similar scam with the exact details of mine but under a different mortgage company.
