Received a phone call from someone that claimed to be "Sophia M." with a law firm Belmontis. (She sounded very professional) I even mentioned this sounds like a scam and she said it is not. She claimed that I had an outstanding debt with Capital One Bank (thru HSBC), although over 15-20 years old, and that the matter could be resolved today for $4000.00 rather than a reported outstanding balance of $6382.00 that would escalate with court costs if it ended up going to court. She then stated that she was emailing me a letter laying everything out. A letter showed up in my in box. She also claimed that local law enforcement was trying to serve me with a subpoena at home but was unable to serve it since no one was home. She said I could pay with multiple credit cards to pay the balance off so I told her I would call her back with the card(s) information to use. In meantime, I received the letter and looked up the law firm she claimed to represent and it doesn't exist (She even stated that they do not have a website). The Mediation Coordinator/Client Services representative Henry Westly listed on the letter has been named in several other scam reports on the internet per other peoples' similiar experiences. The letter contains no contact information such as an email address or a phone number at which to contact them. Needless to say I never called back to make payment.
