Caller said they were calling to collect a debt owed for panel testing and blood work done by MDL (Medical Diagnostic Laboratories) back in March of 2024. They stated 3 invoices had been mailed to my home. I stated I thought this was a scam and they shuffled me around to about 5 different people, ending with Dave J (he would not give a last name - but did provide a “direct” line to him … 863-554-4471), who said he was the office manager. Dave stated his company does not have a website. He also stated his company was based in Santa Barbara but he was calling from the Orlando office. They stated the following: 1. They could not provide the location where services were performed, invoice or account numbers, itemized list of services provided, contact information for MDL or which doctor or institution had requested the work. 2. They stated MDL would not be able to provide any information, even if we contacted them, as this debt was now “owned” by Consumer Debt Services. 3. The contract between the two companies would prevent Consumer Debt Services from providing any more information other than what they had (amount owed, MDL’s name and the date of the service). At the same time, they stated they could provide more details following our payment of this debt. 4. I did a search of collection agencies in the Santa Barbara area and, although there were 14 pages of agencies listed, none of them was Consumer Debt Services. 5. The area code for the number I was called from is an IL number…. If legitimate, I would expect the number would have been from FL. Additionally, I did a search on the number online and it came back as 85% chance of fraud. 5.
