American Airlines flight out of AUS to MIA was delayed to a mechanical issue. Passengers were deplaned and many got in line for the gate agent to find alternatives. Gate agent gave out the phone number 1-800-433-7800 as the number to call to get in touch with American Airlines to rebook over the phone to avoid the long wait in his line. He repeated the number several times. I called this number, spoke to what I believed was an American Airlines representative and was guided to cancel my existing trip and rebook a new trip leaving the following day. This was confirmed by me on the American Airlines website after the call. Upon receiving an email from a company called "fareticketsllc" with a receipt for the new booking, it showed $1,717.46. I checked my credit card statement online and I see I was billed $182.00 by their service and only $1,535.46 for the actual plane tickets. I was not at anytime informed I was using a 3rd party service to change my tickets with American Airlines. @media (min-width:768p [BBB Scam Type: Other] [Business: fareticketsllc] [Location: TX, USA - 78745]
I found a phone number for that appeared to be for American Airlines support (800) 433-7800. When I called the number to try and get assistance having my luggage moved from the terminal of one airline to another, they claimed that the DOB entered on my ticket incorrectly used 1952. They also said I needed to get the tickets changed in order board the plane tomorrow. I didn't have the ability to fact-check either of those while I was on the call, so agreed to pay a fee to change the tickets. The style of the email confirmation I got after making the payment made it very clear that this had been a scam because it's a style that I recognize from security training at work.
