I was contacted via phone (at my business). "MerchantService" displayed on Caller ID. A woman stated her name was Nancy and she was with Merchant Services Corporate. She told me I had been overbilled since January on my account. She asked me to pull up my account so she could go over it with me. She explained that it had to be done TODAY or I would miss my refund on the overcharges. We had recently switched processors and knew for a fact this wasn't the case. She was very insistant and pushy and told me that while she couldn't send me an email with the information, I could send the information to her. I took her number down and did a quick look up and it led me here. "Nancy" provided the following number: 1-800-490-7479 ext. 7035 for me to call her back with the information she requested. She really pushed the concerned sounding voice and "time was of the essence" angle. Sharing in the hopes no one falls for this scam. Our shop received a phone call today from a person claiming to represent Merchant Services, a credit card processing company who "handles over 350 wholesale processors" credit card processing. She claimed that we had been over billed for $500,000 in sales and fees, and that we hadn't responded to an alert on our statements. She then requested that we send our August credit card processing statement. She wanted us to email this information while she remained on the phone in order to give us a "Confirmation Number". She requested that we email it to " [email protected] " with the subject line "90 Day Review, Attn: ". I gathered the contact information from her, and she gave the name "Nancy Jones" with phone number "1-800-490-7479 Ext. 7035". A quick google search of the email address or phone number indicated that it has been associated with fraud. We did not provide any information to this company. Called from 1-800-490-7479 out of Texas. Very pushy and demanding, but did a solid job of sounding legit. She said her name was Nancy from Merchant Services. When asked more detail about who she works for or what the company was connected to she said that all she could say was that she worked Merchant Services for resellers. Claimed we had over payed on several months and we needed to urgently settle the books. She requested banking statements and financial statements from the us. Caller (Jasmin) said she was from our credit card processing company, explained that they had sent out a notice about rate increases that we had not "acknowledged" in our October statement and that we had 30 days to acknowledge it. She asked me to access my statements, explained where the notice should be on them. I said there was no notice on any of our statements that I could see. I asked her again if she was from our credit card processing company and she said yes. I explained that we receive a lot of phone calls from other processing companies trying to get us to switch over and she reiterated that she was not doing that and that she was from our processing company. She asked me to email our December statement to her ( [email protected] ) and that our account manager would call me back in a couple days to go over our account. I relayed to her that this was unusual as I had just talked to our account manager a month prior and none of this was mentioned before. She reassured me that she was from our processing company again and said she would wait on the phone with me to make sure she received our statement. I said I was going to call our company and verify before I emailed her anything. She gave me her phone number and extension (800-490-7479, ext 7129). I hung up and called our processing company who told me that this was a scam and not to send her any information, that we did not have an increase and that there was nothing that we were notified about requiring our acknowledgment (as I had previously spoken with them before). I called Jasmin back and asked to speak with her supervisor, Ryan Davis, and discussed the issue with him. She said that they were from the corporate office of "Merchant Service" and wanted me to verify some information about our Clover POS account. She got nothing from us. I asked for her direct number 800-490-7479 x 7129. I blocked both of those numbers so they can't call us back and waste anymore of our time. The person identified herself as Nancy asking to be transfer to the billing department as our business has been over charged for services and she needed to talk to the person in charge to fix this issue.
