Grant Scam I received a call this morning from some 800 number I said hello, the line was dead, then a man who I couldn't understand said hello, I said hello again and he said nothing so I hung up. Just now I get a call from the same number, same thing happens so I want to figure out if this is important or not. They guy identifies himself as some kind of agent working for the federal government but never asks who he is speaking to. red flag. Then tells me my phone number was selected because I am eligable for $9800 in grant money that I don't have to pay back. red flag. Then he tells me the reason is because I pay my bills on time and pay my taxes (true) and have no criminal record (false). I say sure....curious how this scam is going to operate. He then tells me I can't use the money for booze or gambling (damnit). So now he hits me with the I have 3 ways to receive the money, put it in my bank account, use my credit card, or cash. I say cash, he tells me I'll go to a money gram or western union and gives me the code BN298 and a number (202)738-1444 to call his boss to get the info. I say great, but it's not over, he now needs to verify details about me starting with my age. Nope sorry pal you called me saying your job is to research who is applicable for this money, you should know everything about me. I didn't apply for a grant therefore I can not receive a grant...and if I did apply and was selected the Government would cut me a check, not use western union. The guy had a pretty thick accent, sounded east Asia, India or something. I'm headed to work right now, you guys can fucks with it if you want to. but don't be fooled by this obvious scam.
