I found a job posting on Indeed for an “Inbound Call Operator” position and applied through the Indeed platform. A short time later, I received a text message saying the original position was filled but that I was a good fit for a “Customer Service Associate” role paying $25–$28/hr. They told me to apply on their website, which I did. A few hours later, I received a phone call from the number 701-484-2146. The person on the phone asked three quick interview questions, then immediately told me the job paid $7,000 per month for a basic customer service role. They said they were only choosing 10 people and would make a decision by the end of the day. Within minutes of hanging up, I received an email directing me to log in to a “Control Panel” using a link from “Asset Industries Group.” When I clicked the link, Gmail flagged it as a suspicious website that might steal personal information. The email also included a UK address even though the job was supposed to be in the United States.
