Caller claims their name is “Brenda Collingwood” from account review and verification division of the taxpayer assistance resolution office. Caller claims that my “file” recently appeared during a routine account review for “certain filing or balance items that may still require confirmation”. She states that when accounts appear during this stage they can provide a direct way to verify current status before the account review window closes. She states that their office has a proprietary verification line with no wait allowing me to be connected immediately receive clear confirmation without transfers or delays. At the end she says “Please return my call today at 833-684-4075”. (This number is different then the number she is calling from which is 866-333-1158). She finished her voicemail stating “if you received this message in error please call back and press three to be removed.” Note: Please remember that it’s important to verify the authenticity of the caller before giving person information away or conducting monetary transactions. Legitimate organizations or businesses would not have a “proprietary line without a wait time” especially during the busy tax season. Stay alert and stay safe!
