They call and offer a personal loan at 6% interest in the amount of up to $60,000 with monthly payments of $250. When you ask the name of their company, they claim to be Spruce River Lending. However, upon looking them up on the internet the listed number has been disconnected. It could very well be a company no longer in business. They ask to do a soft credit pull and ask for your social security number. If you tell them you don’t feel comfortable divulging that type of information over the phone they will keep insisting and then agree to just needing the last four digits of your social security number. Once you give that to them they will tell you to hold on as they need to reach the escrow dept. to see if you can qualify for the loan. They come back on the line and state they need to know your monthly expenses such as if you have a mortgage and what other bills. At this point I said I wasn’t interested and hung up. Before hanging up I asked the man what his name was and got his contact information. He gave me a very American first and last name despite his thick Middle-eastern accent. He seemed too desperate and it became apparent it was a scam. His name was supposedly Jordan Steele. His contact info with these instructions: Text this number and request to be connected to Jordan Steele. Here’s the number to text: 949-267-3181. This is supposedly his assistant who can put you in contact with Jordan. [BBB Scam Type: Phishing] [Business: Spruce River Lending] [Location: IL, USA - 60626]
