I got an email on January 29, 2026 from someone who said she was Kristine Byer with MedSearch USA. She said she is "currently managing several active searches for companies hiring skilled professionals and leaders within the semiconductors sector" and wanted to discuss job opportunities that fit my background. I replied about a month later after she emailed me again wanting to engage. We then exchanged emails about what a right fit for me would look like over the next two weeks in late Feb/early March. She eventually sent me a pdf of a job description of what she said was an open position at Western Digital. After I sent her my resume, she replied that my resume "does not fully capture the strategic scope" of my work and offered to connect me to a "placement-level executive resume advisor". When I agreed to be connected, she sent me the name of "Jean Cummings". Suspiciously, Kristine said that Jean's work email was [email protected] (the same @placementadvisory.com as Kristine's email) and that Jean's personal email was [email protected] the exact same email as Kristine's. After I emailed Jean, she said she would charge $800-1,000. When I said I wanted to video chat first, she said she was too busy with other clients but that I should send her my resume so she can get started and pay half the payment now and the other half when I get my resume back. I insisted on a video chat.
