multiple call regarding approved loan never applied for, then another call following actual attempt to obtain loan originally through credit karma, also questionable interaction with Pennie loan as the other call from lending resource offers was right after I checked into Pennie loan after credit karma connected me with them, after refusing application through their site [BBB Scam Type: Advance Fee Loan] [Business: Lending Resource Center] [Location: MA, USA- 01752]

I am filing this complaint to report repeated unsolicited and potentially fraudulent loan solicitation calls that began immediately after I used Credit Karma’s “Borrow Potential” loan preview feature to explore what loans I might qualify for. I never applied for any loan and only used the feature to review potential options. Shortly afterward, I began receiving daily voicemail messages from individuals claiming to be from “loan underwriting,” stating that my file shows I am nearly approved for a $60,000 loan and instructing me to call back at 833-588-3819. These calls are unauthorized and misleading. They come from different phone numbers each day, which I report and block, however the callback number provided is always the same, indicating a coordinated and persistent effort. The timing of these calls immediately after using Credit Karma raises serious concerns that consumer credit inquiry information may be shared or accessed in ways that expose individuals to aggressive or potentially fraudulent solicitation practices. This pattern is concerning not only for me but for other consumers who may unknowingly trigger similar activity simply by exploring financial tools online. .css-1w6dufj{-webkit-box-flex:0;-webkit-flex-grow:0;-ms-flex-positive:0;flex-grow:0;-webkit-flex-basis:auto;-ms-flex-preferred-size:auto;flex-basis:auto;width:calc(100% * 12 / var(-- [BBB Scam Type: Phishing] [Business: Unknown] [Location: DC, USA- 20001]

I got a phone call saying I was approved for a loan for $3000. I gave personal information i.e. account and routing numbers, my birthday, my Social Security number and my credit score etc. the money was never deposited. They stopped answering my calls. They stopped returning emails. They were going to charge me $91 a month to pay back the money that I never got. They have access to my bank account. My credit file, social security number, email etc thru have already tried to get a loan on my name from Credit Karma. I had to deactivate my account freeze my credit file change email password and possibly create a new email. It's a big headache and who knows what or who they'll attack next! @media (min-width:768px){ [BBB Scam Type: Identity Theft] [Business: Nexa Cash Finance] [Location: GA, USA- 30058]

Person who stole my identity wasn’t convicted?? Help The person who stole my identity and opened a credit card, was put on a program by the court to make sure they don’t do it again and are gonna be monitored. The charges were originally filed as a felony now i was told if the defendant obeys and does well with the programs rules the judge gave them, they won’t be convicted with the crime even though they already admitted to the charges. The DA involved in the case said the judge made this decision because the defendant had a clean previous record. How is this fair and is this the norm in the state of California??? Also any tips on how to keep a close eye on my credit/social security number? I already have the basics like credit karma but I wanna make sure I get notified if they use it for EDD benefits in the future or if they try to rent/buy something in my name. Thank you !

I think my identity might have been stolen.. Recently, I had to undergo a background check for my job. When reading the report, I noticed that my current address is listed in Florida…I’ve never lived in Florida. I decided to log into my credit karma account and check my TransUnion/Equifax reports; I noticed the same Florida address listed on my equifax report. The only thing is that all of the accounts listed on my credit reports were opened by me. I also checked the hard inquiries and nothing was unfamiliar/unusual. It seems like maybe the only thing someone would’ve gotten out of it was an apartment at the Florida address? I have a few questions: is there anywhere else that I can look into this more, to see if there’s anything else that may not be showing on my credit reports? Who would I contact regarding this issue? Could anything even be done granted that it doesn’t appear that any accounts/loans/credit cards weren’t fradualy opened (from what I could see on the reports/know so far)? I’m trying to vigilant and figure out the best course of action before it could get worse, if possible. I’m not sure if this matters, but I live in NY.

Ok Reddit, I need help. I’m sure someone has my identity. This is gonna be quite a read so please bear with me. I am in my mid 20s and have never been able to get any kind of credit card or even been able to see my credit score. I use all the apps, Credit Karma, Experian ect. and they all say something along the lines of “We do not have enough information” or “We are unable to pull your score at this time”. I can’t even get a Best Buy card because there is something wrong. Back in 2019, a fraudulent check was attempted to be put in to my bank account and I have absolutely no idea who the people on the check were or how the hell it could even happen in the first place, I just assumed someone got my info on the internet but me being 18-19 and naive, I thought I’ll just change my bank account info and I’ll be good. Not sure if that situation is relevant but who knows… it’s suspicious. And now that I actually care about my credit and would like to build it, I can’t. Where do I start? Who do I call? I not even sure if that’s actually the problem but I have no idea what I’m doing!! It’s so frustrating. All of these apps for identity protection cost money and all they would do is make it more secure, but at this point it has to be fixed (again IF that’s it). I haven’t a clue what my first step should be to find out if someone is using my information. Please, I need advice bad.

Credit Karma reported 2 “hard pulls” in the last week, and it’s not from me. Next steps? Both were from JP Morgan/Chase, and I’ve never done business with them ever. I called them and they said they saw two requests for a CC, which certainly weren’t from me, and tried to transfer me to the fraud department, but they are currently closed until tomorrow. Is there anything I should do in the mean time? Should I go “balls to the wall” and freeze everything right now, or should I just wait until the morning to talk to someone, and see what they were actually for? I feel like they are a company that owns a lot of other, smaller companies, so maybe it was somehow associated to another loan I have? But in any case, wouldn’t they still require a verification to run the credit check?

New account reported I got a credit karma notification that a new account was opened in my name. I have not applied for a new line of credit in a few years so I was immediately worried. Well here we go, $32k line of credit opened through mountain America federal credit Union and from they time they opened it to the time I noticed it reported to my credit the balance was already $5,012! It was opened 9/22 and I found out on I believe it was 10/2. How do these people do this? Don’t they have to submit identity verification when opening an account through a credit union with that kind of limit!? That’s crazy to me. In the middle of an investigation now. In the mean time, police report has been filed and I put a freeze on all 3 credit bureaus.

Help with what else to do after id theft Hi everyone. I’m posting this even though I never post because I don’t have anyone to ask about this problem. When i was a teen I carried around my ID and ssn with me in my wallet and got robbed. I’ve never done that again but now I see there’s fraudulent inquiries on my credit reports. Things like they made a credit karma account in my name, applications for capital one credit card,(no accounts were actually opened, for whatever reason, thank God) after I saw that I immediately placed a freeze and fraud alert and did a police report plus an FTC report. I also disabled their credit karma account and reported fraud to capital one. Recently it’s been application for ACIMA, a lease to own agency. I called ACIMA to report the fraud and they told me the account was denied upon submission, most likely because now I have my credit frozen with the 3 bureaus. The thief does use their address and phone number on my credit report, but the police haven’t done anything with that information. They are trying applications even with being denied. What else can I do, have I missed anything? Can I press charges or investigate since I had an address on file that isn’t mine but theirs? I’m lucky they haven’t opened accounts but I absolutely hate seeing their attempts.

Lowes Account Open in Person I got an email yesterday welcoming me to the Lowes Business Account Center and asking to complete my online account. I thought it was a phishing attempt so I was about to disregard but decided to check the email it came from and that looked legit. I logged in to my Credit Karma and saw that I had a hard inquiry from Lowes. I called them to confirm and someone IN PERSON opened a business account under my name. I informed them that was fraud and flagged the account. I then froze my credit across all three major credit bureaus and a smaller one that was recommended by fellow Redditer. I also flagged my SSN has been compromised. I will keep monitoring my cards and my credit karma profile. My question is how could someone open an account in person? It was a Lowes location in the city I live in too . According to the Lowe’s manager they provided a valid ID. The scariest part is that we recently purchase a home in the past 6 weeks and they provided the new home address. They have have email, phone number, everything… Could this be possibly done by someone I know, or a random scammer? While researching last night I discovered that I was part of the Equifax data leak. Could that be it? I just can’t get over that the account was open at a Lowes location 30 minutes away from me.
