Reports from people targeted by scammers using Credit Karma, LLC's name.
Fraudsters contacted consumers via 290-680-1369 and directed them to bluecheckusa.me while falsely claiming affiliation with Credit Karma, LLC. The scammers offered fake credit monitoring services or student loan consolidation deals that required victims to provide their full financial profile and personal information. Some college students later discovered unexpectedly high credit scores, suggesting the scammers had been using their identities to open unauthorized credit accounts.
Someone keeps trying to open credit cards in my name. Hey i’m pretty sure this is the right place but sometime in january i got a notification from credit karma that a hard inquiry hit my account. The next day i called them and they said they had already marked the application as fraudulent and disputed the application. 7- 10 days later my credit score went back up to what it was originally. Unfortunately i just got another one and will call them again first thing in the morning but im not sure what to do. I’ve been reading posts and see a lot about freezing credit but im not sure at all how that works. Should i change my ssn? What exactly does freezing my credit do? is there anything i can do? It stresses me so much and im not sure what to do besides call credit karma again.
Credit Karma "SPARK", wale fare warning Yeah, will get all of your bank info, install, application, then and only then, after they have every bit of sell-able information out of you, they will let you know that they directly discriminate people on fixed incomes. So if you are disabled with SSI, or SSDI, or state wale fare you do not count. (simply link another account!). Have not felt so discriminated against ever in my life. Now they have my info, and I have nothing. They claim they can not contact the federal government, to see the statements my bank clearly lists every month.
Dentist messed up my credit before buying a car Location: WA state. I had a dentist bill of $2100. I told the receptionist I would just pay for it in full, but she offered a payment plan through CareCredit. I told her I didn’t want to do that because I haven’t opened any credit cards yet and I was scared it would hurt my credit right before buying a car. She assured me it would not affect my credit, minus maybe a small soft inquiry for applying. Because I was in the process of buying a car, I figured if it wouldn’t hurt my credit maybe the monthly payments would be better. So I applied, got approved, and she sent CareCredit my info and address to send me a card to setup my account. This was about a month ago. Fast forward to Sunday, I go to the dealership and they ask me about my credit score. I tell them it’s 729. Pulled up Credit Karma and I was shocked to see my credit score at 630. Down 99 points in one day. I looked into it and it was the CareCredit. In the app it looks like a credit card with a 2100 limit maxed out. I hadn’t even gotten the letter in the mail at this point to even sign up for my account. I called CareCredit and they said that the reason my credit went down so much was because the dentist office put a charge of $2100 on it, even though I didn’t have a payment due until 5/15. And they also forgot my apartment # in my address, which is why I never received the paperwork. I went ahead and paid the whole thing over the phone because I just wanted it to be fixed. But the damage is already done, interest rate on my new car is through the roof because of my credit. I called the dentist office and explained, the lady was very rude and said it’s out of her control. On top of that, a few weeks ago I asked her to email me an itemized bill and one of the things on the list I declined. I mentioned it to her and she said she would remove it. When I requested it again today, surprise surprise! Still on there. It was only a $50 charge, but after everything els
Zombie debt collection Location: NY State Last week I was contacted by a law office out of CA claiming that they were about to file a lawsuit for collections for a debt I defaulted on 11 years ago. They told me the original creditor name which I do recognize along with the supposed account number, but no other info or actual documentation was provided. I don’t even remember what the credit line amount was even for because it’s so old. I stated that that debt is ancient (likely stupid since that’s an acknowledgment of the debt) to which they replied “well the account was just closed in 2021 so it’s not that old” (I doubt this). This account has never shown up on my credit report the entire time I’ve been on Credit Karma, and frankly I completely forgot about it from 11 years ago. They then offered me a settlement for $1,853 and sent the paper to my email, which I haven’t responded to. They have called me twice today. From what I understand about the laws in NYS, this is a time-barred debt and making threats to sue on it is illegal. They told me that have lawyers in NYS that this will be sent to and they will file with my local county courts to take action to levy my bank account, intercept my taxes, and garnish my wages. This stressing me out and making me feel like a terrible person. Are these just scare tactics to get any sort of payment out of me? I’m scared and don’t know what to think. I can attach the settlement letter in the comments if it would help. It won’t let me post it here. Thank you so much for anyone’s help with this.
My mom opened a credit card on my name. Hello everyone, I need some advice. When I turned 18, my mom opened a credit card in my name for $3,000 without me knowing. I only found out about it about a year ago, and I’m 24 now. I love her and I don’t want anything bad to happen to her, but this situation has been going on for years and it’s seriously damaged my credit. I can’t get approved for loans or credit cards, my credit score is really low because of it. About four months ago, we had a big argument and she paid off part of the balance, which temporarily improved my credit. I asked her for the card information or the physical card so she wouldn’t use it anymore and to pay it off or cancel it myself, but she refused. She said she would take care of it and didn’t want me “ruining my credit even more” basically insinuating that I wanted the card to use it myself, she then told me she cut the card in half so it couldn’t be used anymore. Yesterday tho she used it again for about $700, I noticed because credit karma told my my credit score decreased and upon checking it was that damn card. I got really frustrated because I feel like I’ve tried every calm and peaceful solution and nothing changes. In that moment, I called the credit card company and explained everything honestly. They told me it is considered identity theft and that she could face criminal charges, which is the last thing I want. I don’t want to hurt her, even though I’ve been lied to and financially affected for years. I just want peace. I want the account frozen or closed, and I don’t want this to escalate further with her legally. Now I’m worried because of what I already said to the credit card company, and I don’t know what happens next or if there’s anything I can do to prevent her from getting in serious trouble. Is there any way to fix this situation or de-escalate it at this point? I just want this credit card issue to be resolved without destroying my relationship with her. Location: FL
Needing advice on next steps? I received an email for a transaction from Square, I checked the email address and it checks out. It alerted me to a charge, that I did not make, but the last 4 numbers of the credit card shown are not a credit card that I have. My credit is frozen with at least one of the bureaus if not all 3, so I am fairly confident it would not be a new account, I will check the other two. I have had no new alerts of a new account opening. To add some context I am fairly confident in the validity of this email as 2 days prior I received a similar email, checked the card identified, it was showing the listed transactions, started a dispute and promptly closed the card. The longer I sit here it sounds like someone opened a card in my name, but would I have not seen something sooner from Experian or even Credit Karma about an inquiry to open a new card. What is the reasonable likelihood that the credit card number got re-used? 10\^16... Contact the Seller to try get more information? That seems like the only other angle for this to be scammy and not actually a legit email pointing to another issue.
Dental office opened a CC without my consent Hi legal advice! F/26/CA (US) Location: California, United States I recently went to a dental office to start Invisilign treatment and agreed to a credit check to get financing for my Invisilign, they ran my credit, and I ended up signing up for a loan through HFD, or Healthcare Finance Direct, for a loan covering my Invisilign treatment. I completed the application myself, and accepted the loan terms. The financial assistant, while my credit was ran to see what loans I would be eligible for, mentioned that I got approved for care credit and that I could pay for any dental treatments or fillings I might need. I told her I have insurance, and have a separate dental office that I go to for my dental work that my insurance covers so I won’t be needing that. Fast forward a week later, I’m getting emails and text messages from care credit that I have a new account opened and I will be receiving my card in the mail soon. I don’t need this account, my Invisilign is being paid for in full by the separate loan company. I did not consent to opening this account, and I plan on buying a car soon so the unnecessary ding to my credit from a card I won’t use and don’t want is very upsetting. I have Credit Karma and confirmed the account that impacted my credit was the bank of Care Credit, aka synchrony, and not my installment loan company, which only requires a soft credit check. I can’t attach a picture of what I signed for the office in regards to consent for help finding financial assistance, but this is what the contract said: As a patient of this dental practice, I understand the following: 1. Request for Third-Party Financing I am voluntarily requesting to apply for third-party financing to assist with the payment of my dental treatment. I understand this is an optional financial arrangement. 2. Credit Report Inquiry Disclosure I understand that submitting an application for third-party financing may result in either a sof

I was referred to Auto Pay through Credit Karma to refinance my auto loan. I trust Credit Karma so I went on their website and completed the application and uploaded the required documents. Not long after I completed this, I received a phone call from an 844 number; figuring it was Auto Pay, I answered and the woman identified herself as someone from Auto Pay, but she had a thick Indian accent and something felt off. Just before this, I had read an email from a loan specialist at Auto Pay, who's name was Vincent, so I expected the call to be from him. When I questioned this lady about how do I know she is from Auto Pay and not trying to scam me, and why wasn't Vincent calling instead.....she said she was just calling to verify my account first. I was still uneasy about giving her any info, so I asked her to provide me with the info I gave on my application; she was able to tell me my address and the type of car I was trying to refinance, so I thought it was legit, so I was going to move forward with "verifying" my account. But, a minute later I received another phone call from a number that actually came up on my phone as Auto Pay Rate Genius (which is how is was listed on Credit Karma) and I asked the woman why I would be receiving another phone call from them when I'm already on the phone with a representative? She said, oh you can answer that....and they had already hung up, I told her that and she hesitated a second and then just hung up.........she was trying to scam me I believe. I called the number she called me on back and the message says it's Auto Pay, so they've got it set up to fool you good I guess. I'm just glad I didn't give her any banking info or sign anything over. [BBB Scam Type: Phishing] [Business: AutoPay RateGenius - impostor Date R] [Location: ID, USA - 83843]
