APARTMENT MISUSED MY SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER/ APPLIED IT TO ANOTHER TENANT I applied to the apartment complex three years ago, toured, paid all required fees, and ultimately decided to rent elsewhere (I never lived there, not 1 day). Two weeks ago, I received an alert from Credit Karma and Experian showing that my Social Security number, date of birth, and other personal details from my application were incorrectly applied to another tenant’s collection account. To clarify, the tenant did not steal my information; rather, my data was mistakenly merged with hers internally by the complex. I tried disputing it, but the collection agency now has me listed as this person's co-signer. I have been in constant communication with the complex. I am currently pregnant, and I am high-risk. Should I retain legal counsel? Is this something they should fully handle? I can no longer apply for a car and get a decent interest rate, and I need a larger vehicle. This is all stressing me out so bad. Please help. Location: North Carolina
Should I refinance my car? Credit Karma recommended that I refinance my car and gave me the above estimates. Does this sound like a good thing to do? I’m currently looking to move into an apartment soon and am trying to calculate my monthly rent budget.
Finacial abuse, need advice asap Location: Illinois I have been subject to fincial abuse by my father since I was in highschool now and he has opened multiple credit cards in my name. He has raised my credit to a score of around +750 but he has been using them for personal items and when money is tight. He won't let me have or use them in anyway, and when I said I wanted to move out so can I have them he told me he would "cut then up infront of me." I used credit karma to see what my score was and what balance was on there, but I have zero access to any of my credit. How can control over my finances, and who should I talk too? (He is abusive in other ways too, but I came for advice on how to get control of my credit)
Please help me understand this. It feels scammy. I’m unhappy with my interest rate and payment on my 2024 Subaru Crosstrek. I feel it is too high for my credit score, which is atleast 800. My payment is currently $483 a month at 7.04%. My estimated total interest is $3,621. I got on Credit Karma and was offered the following rate: 4.59% apr My total interest paid would go down by $975 and my payment would go down by $75. I contacted the lender, and they are now not honoring that offer and are trying to push gap insurance, an extended service warranty and prepaid maintenance on me, all of which are scams in my eyes. Being pushy with them. What went from me saving money with a lower apr, interest rate, loan length and payment is now being offered as such: Rate 5.54% 6.31 Term 84 Months Payment $392.97 OR Rate 5.04% 6.08 Term 60 Months Payment $515.66 How does this make any sense? I only wanted to refinance, not add time to my loan and thousands of dollars. I asked the loan agent to give me ONLY refinancing options without gap, an extended service warranty or prepaid maintenance. This feels slimy to me. All of these extras are not necessary, do you agree?
My mom rolled my car into her morgage Location: Michigan Hello all, Im trying to understand a bit more about this situation. Im on mobile so I will try to edit it the best I can. I purchased a brand new 2022 honda crv in 2022, when I went to get the car I was told I didnt have enough credit built to purchase it on my own (annoying but not super important) and thus my mother had to sign for the loan on the car. We were in an odd spot cause the loan was in my mother's name with me as a cosigner but the title was a joint name. Because the loan was in her name I would give her the money every month and she would put it towards the car. I had always planned to refinance the car when things get better to put it fully in my name but the market wasn't good at the time. Fast forward to earlier this year and im checking my outstanding debts on my credit karma and notice the cars not there anymore, and hasn't been since midway through 2025. I asked my mom and she told me she had rolled it into a new morgage. My question is what does this mean. I want to have the car fully in my name and get her off of it but I dont believe thats an option anymore. Is the car hers now legally? Is there any way to remedy this situation, I want to have more information before I confront her on this. Thank you all for your time.
Identity theft attempt on me today Someone tried to open a credit card account online today in my name. (thank you, Credit Karma, for the instant heads up). This already showed on my credit report as a hard inquiry. I suppose that means that someone has a fair amount of my personal info. My response--I called the would-be credit issuer (Barclay's bank) and made them aware of it. They said they are taking care of it. I froze my credit with Equifax, Experian and Trans Union. I filed a report with the FTC. Does anyone know how quickly I might see the ding and the hard inquiry go off my credit report? I am trying to buy a house, which is the only reason I have any credit worth stealing at this point. I also want to know what else I should do to protect myself. The FTC site says that a freeze stays until I lift it. Is that enough? Should I file the extended fraud alert? Is it worth getting one of those services, like Lifeloc? This is all new to me. I'm quite nervous about it, but I feel like I've done what I can so far. thanks
Mortgage dispute Location: Mesa, Arizona I feel like this isn’t right but want to make sure I’m not crazy before I hire a lawyer. This is what happened. Back in January our mortgage company UWM sold us to a new mortgage company which is called loan care. Before they sold us we made our January payment to UWM. Loan care is saying we missed a payment in January. We told them we paid it to UWM and they need to get it figured out with them because we aren’t paying an extra $3k in the same month which we already paid. Filed a dispute with them and Credit Karma and it says that loan care disagrees with the claim. We pulled up all the records bank statements and they’re still saying it’s our fault and we missed a payment. UWM said we were transferred in good standing and paid but loan care disagrees. We are still trying to talk with loan care but I’m getting tired of their 4 month “investigation”. We have been paying every month on time and it is showing we are late every month because of that. My credit has dropped from a 785 to 593 and continuing to drop. Any advice on how I should go about this would be great. Maybe I am wrong and when mortgages sell your account you do have to make 2 mortgage payments in one month idk.
Sketchy from RateGenius or no? So credit karma told me to apply for refinancing through RateGenius and I did today they pulled my credit from two different banks. Something Sketchy happened as the number they called me from texted me as the link which asks for my ID and insurance info but that's not the sketchy part. The company texted me some random guy's phone number who doesn't even remotely work with loans or any company that touches loans. Anybody know if I don't provide the documents if that will halt everything now? I'm weirded out as this is giving me scam heavy vibes or something.
Trying to figure out my kids’ credit situation My sons both have the same mother who is a habitual credit fraudster. She’s been taken to court twice since we split up by her mother for fraudulently using her as a co-signer. Not to mention all of the credit lines she opened in my name during our divorce. I want to check our sons’ credit reports to make sure she has nothing opened in their names. How do I go about doing that? Is it as simple as signing them up for Credit Karma or is there a more detailed method to use?
How to contact Credit Karma without an account A Credit Karma debit card was mailed to me for activation but I don’t have an account with them. I've had my credit frozen with all three bureaus since Nov. 2025 (due to suspicious activity) so I didn’t think this could happen 😅. I wanted to report to CK but it only allows members to speak with a live agent. Do I just trust that if I don’t activate the card all is well? I’m paranoid that creating an account to be able to talk to a real person might somehow help the scammer. Any advice? Please and Thank you.
