I was called and asked if I had read the email the caller claimed was sent to me. He then proceeded to tell me that my phone number and personal information had been used to get a new phone and number from the Verizon store in Washington DC on November 17th and that that new number was then used to send illegal messages such as gambling promotion, illegal investment, and child exploitation materials to many in the Washington DC area. He wanted to transfer my call to the DC metropolitan police (since I don't live in the area) so that I could make a statement and request an investigation. The caller said he was working for the FCC and that his name was Curtis Daniel, badge #****** and this call was about Case #********. He also told me that after making a police report I was to email a copy of it to [email protected] in the next 2 hours. The call came to me from number 1-206-581-5123. I concluded that it was a scam and hung up, but I have to say, this guy was convincing enough to seriously bother a lot of people! I think he wanted to transfer my call to "the police station" to collect my personal information. [BBB Scam Type: Phishing] [Business: FCC - Impostor] [Location: WA, USA - 98248]
