Beware! "Department of Legal Affairs with the United States Treasury" Scam. Hey guys, posting to help others avoid falling for this BS. Here goes: * Received an alarming call from my father an hour ago. "Officer Robert James of the Department of Legal Affairs with the United States Treasury" was seeking my phone number - and/or my lawyers phone number as there was an "action brought against me". He wouldn't share any details whatsoever and only wanted my number. My dad refused (go dad!). I was to call Officer James at 213-221-8472. * My dad recommended that I reach out to a family friend who's a lawyer instead of speaking with the Department of Legal Affairs with the United States Treasury directly. As I couldn't think of any reason for their to be an "action brought against me", I decided to call, not say anything, and simply ask for an explanation. * As I dialed (recording below), I did a quick google search - and there were a number of red flags. Combining these red flags with the background noise and his heavy accent, I challenged "Officer Robert James" - and he immediately hung up. My guess is that they'd threaten me with a large suit - and offer to settle immediately for a smaller amount. Scary as my parents were clearly falling for this. Be careful.
