Caller asked to verify if my wife was going to be home in one hour so that legal papers could be served; she wasn't home. My wife called the number back (844-409-8569) and received a message about someone trying to sell something. However, I had written down the number that the company first called me from (480-741-3512) and when calling back, a different person answered indicating they were a paralegal from the Lambert & Lamber Legal Group. They threatened to take us to court for a charge of $5921.90, but would settle the matter, today, for $2541. When asked about who the plaintiff was: Bank of America, and they gave us the credit card number. They said they were trying to collect on a debt from just over 10 years old. We called Bank of America who said there was no such account. We also validated that the account number was invalid by using a tool that calculated the check digits included in a credit card number. We searched Google for 'Lambert & Lambert Legal Group' where it was explicitly stated that there was no such group in Santa Monica, CA. Finally, we did a reverse lookup on the 844 call-back number and it was reported as being from a scammer, and we also did a reverse lookup on the phone number of the "paralegal" we talked to (213-232-8325) where it was reported as 'likely spam'. We avoided getting scammed, but they had their routine well scripted and believable, using my wife's name, cell phone number, and our street address.
