I was required by HOA to complete periodic dryer vent cleaning, so I searched online and submitted multiple quote requests. I received text messages from several providers, including one identifying itself as “Clean Haven Air and Chimney” from (202) 831-4244. I scheduled an appointment after receiving what appeared to be a normal confirmation, but the confirmation referenced a different name, “Prime Air,” which was not previously disclosed. On the service day, a technician called from (239) 371-7362 and arrived at my home. Upon arrival, he immediately demanded $400, which had never been disclosed or agreed upon in advance. When I questioned the price, he stated that work had already started because he was on-site and insisted payment be made immediately via Zelle or cash before any service could proceed. I was told this was standard for small businesses. No written estimate, invoice, or license information was provided. Due to pressure and confusion, I sent $400 via Zelle. After payment, the technician left without performing any meaningful service, inspection, or cleaning. I then contacted (202) 831-4244 and was told a manager would send another technician because the first worker was allegedly unlicensed. No one returned, and follow-up calls were either unanswered or redirected. Communication became inconsistent, and phone numbers appeared unreliable.
