Community Reports

The scammer "Angela Carson" asked to join a private neighborhood email group that I administer. When I asked to confirm her address, she claimed to live at an eligible address and said she was renting from the owner, who she named correctly. I was surprised to hear that the owner had moved, but confirmed her membership. A few days later, "Angela" posted a message asking for moving boxes for her kid's project, a normal-sounding message for this email group. Another few days later, she posted a message promoting a duct cleaning service and invited neighbors to join. Here is the text: -----start of message----- Hello Everyone! We’re scheduling a dryer vent cleaning and if anyone else is interested, we can get a group discount. Normally, this service costs $350, but if more people sign up, the price drops to $150 per home! Not cleaning your dryer vent increases the risk of fire in your home because lint and dust build up inside the vents, which can become a serious fire hazard. We’ve used this service before, and they do an excellent job. (he does duct and chimney cleaning if you need that as well) If you’re interested, please PM me your contact info and address, and I’ll arrange a convenient time. Or feel free to text Dan at 240-202-8145. -----end of message----- Today I learned that the property owner at that address has not moved and does not rent to "Angela." At minimum, "Angela" misrepresented themselves. But considering that many other people have received the same message, this appears to be scam where someone collects money from "neighbors" and then disappears with it. A woman named Joann Rocha emailed [email protected] , a list that I'm on, and said, "We’re looking to get our AC ducts cleaned soon and wanted to see if anyone would like to join in! We’ve used Gabriel before and were really happy with the results. He offered a group discount if we get a few more houses signed up, the price drops from $400 to $200, and he’ll include a free dryer vent cleaning as well. If you’re interested, just send me a message with your info and I’ll help coordinate for him to come out to the area. Or feel free to text Gabriel at 240-202-8145." Then a guy named Tyler called me from that number. He left a voice mail saying he was from "Dryer cleaning services", but then gave me the website: https://allamericanductsolutions.com/, which says it's got an A+ rating on the BBB and great reviews on Yelp, etc. So I looked it up and there's nothing. The FB and YouTube links on their page lead right back to their website. [BBB Scam Type: Phishing] [Business: All American Duct Solutions Date Rep] [Location: OR, USA- 97216]
