I received a call from a number I recognized as local (253-237-9432). When I answered, I heard a recording saying "to avoid litigation for my noncompliance, call us back at 888-228-8261." I was suspicious of the call because there is nothing, I am in noncompliance of and decided to call back the local number. It helps to know my first name is a traditionally male name that is generally used for women. A man answered my call, and all he said was "litigation department." "Litigation for what company?" "We are a litigation company. Do you have a case number?" "I just received a call from this number about noncompliance?" "You have to call the number they gave you in the message." "It wasn't a message, I answered the call, and I didn't have a pen to write it down so I'm calling back the number that called me." "You have to call the number they gave you." "I don't have that number; can you give it to me again?" "Is this (my name)?" "Yes." "(My name)?" "Yes, that's me." "OK, what is your date of birth?" "I'm not going to give you that, you should have that information." "You can't tell me your date of birth?" "I can't tell you any personal information if you don't have it already." "Well, I don't believe you are (my name)-" "**** **** ***, goodbye." I then hung up the phone. At no point did they give me a business name or their own name.
